| Mole Foam method of posting? Has anyone heard of this being successful with a Doberman crop? No Tape Ear Standing Method - mole foam
I know the link has been posted before. The site is specific to a Bouvier puppy, but there is a DPCA citation in blue at the top of the page. I also found the exact same method referenced for posting Boxer and German Pinscher ears. I'm just wondering if it would stand up to the long Dobie crops. I haven't heard any success stories...but I also haven't heard of any Dobie owners that actually tried this method. I'm just looking for first- or second-hand experience with it. I've already amassed drycleaning rods from my hangers, but am curious about other methods.
Here's a similar method, which uses popsicle sticks to strengthen the molefoam: ears

| I would personally go with the traditional tampon method. I think I have tried them all on Rommel, Ziris, and Aden......the tampons work the best IMO.
Also....I think Boxers and Bouviers have a little different ear leather which makes them a little easier to stand.

| I tried gluing that stuff in too....it didn't work for us. Tampons are tried and true....and once you do it a half dozen times....you will be an expert! The posting seems like it will never end....and it does and believe it or not....you will miss it, why? Because by the time their ears are done....they are no longer little puppies!
Bet you are getting excited!!

ox | Wow, this hit the nail on the head. Thanks for reminding me Carol.
Yes, the tampons. The only other method I might try would be the foam pipe insulation. |

Hubby says....no more puppies, and I know he is serious, so at my age....he might have been my last little one....wahhhh!

| We used foam pipe insulation (it come in a coil, about the same diameter as a tampon). Wrapped the foam in surgical tape, then usde that to post the ears. When Java had a problem w/ one of the tips, the vet used a hard plastic piece that fitted inside the ear and taped the ear to that. Wished hubby had asked where they bought them, because it pushed out the ear at the base and prevented any folding or pockets from forming. |

| We used mole foam, 1 ear stood perfectly and the other we started the tampon method and it still bats over, he has a medium crop, so we are back to the mole foam. Only b.c he will not tolerate the tampon method anymore and ripped it and the e collar off and tore his ear and now has scars. I think either way its still a hit or miss...depends what they will tolerate. |

| I started posting Leo's ears with Tampons until they became too short, Now i have him in Foam Pipe , they are best , also doesn't' hurt his inner ear or leave abrasions. and also flexible enough if he goes banging into a wall or something lol ,But stiff enough to keep them straight, I also have a small pocket on Leo's left ear that just doesn't' want to show it's stands so I place a Breath right strip on that inner ear before I post with the foam pipe, Gives extra assurance that you tapped it up without any kinks
I also put some skin bond on the post before posting so it assures a longer post time. (I do check daily for any odors, etc) |

| | Alpha | I have used the mole foam method and had good results. Of course, my dog doesn't have the long show crop AND even with the mole foam, some taping is necessary. I have also used the backer rods... with better success than the tampon method. Having said that, every dog is different and what works for one may not work for another. I mean did anyone see the dobes at Westminster with their ears flapping about??? Not pretty at all, IMHO. |
