Don't you worry about them choking/obstructing on the bones in something like this whole chicken? I know wild dogs eat stuff like this all the time, but I just wondered if that was anything to be concerned about... | I know it is hard to imagine for non~raw~feeders.....but it comes out the other end and looks like chunks of white chalk. They completely digest the chicken bones. Their digestive system becomes used to the raw, that is why it isn't recommend to feed raw and kibble at the same meal....they use different digestive juices, and the food break down at different rates. You do have to monitor every meal except the ground ones. Thats why when Petey is either with someone else or at the kennel, he is on ground only.

| Wow!! I am totally amazed at this! How does one start their dogs on raw food? As I was picking up ground turkey at the grocery store the other day the man in the meat dept. started telling me that they have lots of people that buy the big bags of frozen chicken legs and chicked quarters for their dogs. Could I start by just giving them one leg along with their canidae dry food? The bones concern me. |

| Don't be concerned by the bones. They chomp them up and swallow them. RAW bones are not an issue. Chicken quarters are a pretty comfortable way to start. I buy them by the case or bag. I like to use whole chickens for the cats, the whole swam eats about 1/2 a chicken. I need to see if I can scrounge some more tomorrow.
Don't mix it with dry. It just upsets the digestion. Just start cold turkey, thats all I've done. You are looking to feed 2-3% of ideal body weight.
Feed large things. Don't give in to fear and give small things or cut it up. Part of the satisfaction of the meal is to eat the meal. |
