So, 20 cups a day between three dogs means you go through 60 dollar bags of Innova EVO pretty quickly, right?
I average feeding about 40 lbs a week - some of my meat is very inexpensive (chicken and turkey, or instance, i can get well under 50 cents a lb, for instance, and I would say that makes up about half of their diet) - but some of their diet is over 2 dollars a lb. I would say on average I pay about 1/lb, maybe 1.25/lb? So say on average I spend 100-150/month feeding Berlin and Rah - Tyler eats mostly EVO, so he eats about 50 dollars worth of kibble a month, plus some Raw (and he's working through random other kibbles right now too - puppy kibble I had for berlin, leftover kibble elle couldnt feed to her dog - Tyler is an iron trash can! I actually got a GREAT deal on venison and rabbit as well right now, and I can get pork for a dollar a lb, so it's really just beef that ends up being expensive, and lamb - so I can feed most of my meals right now for 1/lb or less.
So - long story short - about 100-150/month to feed the two dogs. But we shall see as Berlin starts to grow where she ends up and how much she ends up eating. We are still adjusting.
Carol -
I feed tripe about once a week, maybe once every week or two?
I'll let you know next time I order it through my co=op, maybe you can just order some through me? I paid 1.75/lb i believe ? When I feed it I split the 4-5 lbs between Rah and Berlin, and sometimes Tyler too. Like I said, I go for simple. I buy things in 1-2 dog sized meals on purpose Rah eats 2-3 lbs and Berlin gets the rest. | Hi Doberkim , where do you live . I would like to get some tripe in a couple of weeks. |

| This thread is really helpful to me as I am in the stage of having made my decision to go to raw feeding but not quite ready to start. I see that you feed most of the meals in bowls. Do your dogs drag the food around a bit on the floor as they are eating? When I have occasionally fed raw to my dogs I put down a towel and make them stay on it because they tend to make a big mess. Do they just eat it down right over the bowl after they master the raw eating skills (my two are pretty clumsy at it but they don't get it very often)? Thanks for the photos and info!

Thanks for the photos and info! | Personally I only use bowls when I feed cut up stuff with veggies, (or if I'm taking pictures of meals). If feeding lets say 1/4 chicken I just toss it on the ground outside. I got tired of trying to keep the meals on towels etc.

Thanks for the photos and info! | actually, the only two animals in the house that will eat raw out of bowls without spilling are my two cats. they were raw fed from the time they were 8 weeks old and when they were kittens, they were my only pets so i trained them well to keep their food in the bowl or on the plate i gave them (every time they would drag it off, i would scruff them, carry them back to the bowl, and put the meat back in the bowl) - now they watch the other cats drag stuff around and look at them like "ooohhh, you gonna be in trouble man"
the big fluffy white cat in the first set of pictures eats his meals up on the counter while the other cats eat on the floor because he is slow and they will steal his food and they aren't allowed on the counters - but every time he has raw, he picks it up out of his dish and takes it down to the floor. funny, he'll eat everything else on the counter but refuses to eat raw anywhere but on the floor!

| If anyone is in the Northwest (or further, I suppose), this company came highly recommended to me. They ship whole frozen quail. I talked to someone who feeds these to their cats. Northwest Gamebirds Quote: |

| Ack! I don't think I realized how many cups of food an adult dobie ate. Time to re-evaluate that food budget.

| berkshire, you have to realize - my dogs have hollow legs. theres no reason my TWELVE YEAR OLD MALE that only leaves the house to poop needs to be eating 7 cups of EVO, but he does. my dogs don't even get THAT Much exercise (heck, im afraid to increase exercise on my dogs - rah would have to eat half a bag of dog food!)... i dont know why they need to eat so much. they are just, hollow?????
i just mostly use the bowls for transport and pictures all my dogs eat on the blankets you see, the bowls were just to move the meat from the counter to the blankets. tripe is eaten in the bowl/plate because its gross, as is any ground. but the rest, while SERVED in bowls, is all eaten on blankets, as evidenced by the eating pics.
yeah all my animals are messy pigs you should see rah try to eat his rabbits outside, he has to bury them then dig them back up...

| The store gave me a discount on the tripe if I ordered it in bulk, and pick it up before they unpack the truck...still more money then I'd like to spend on it....but I'm only going to feed him a pound a week. So I've got my tripe for the next 5 months. I'm on a mission to get Petey's food bill down. We will have 2 kids "away" at college for next year....can you say EXPENSIVE? I get scared when I think that with a little luck we will have kids in college for the next 8 years! They are on their own for Grad school.
Thanks for the offer anyway! I should hook up with a Co-op and get 6 months worth of food at a time.

Don't you worry about them choking/obstructing on the bones in something like this whole chicken? I know wild dogs eat stuff like this all the time, but I just wondered if that was anything to be concerned about...
