| | Lil Pup | my boy ate a sock he's eaten them before, but he's never been like this.
he's been acting fine up until yesterday and he can't hold anything down. he's not eating, but he's drinking water. but he's not holding that down.
we're gonna take him to the vet in the morning if he doesn't pass it or throw it up by then.
does anyone know if canned pumkin works? i don't know if he'd even eat it...
i feel so bad cause you can just tell he's not feelling good.

If a dog is obstructed, the longer you wait the higher the risk of parts of the intestine becoming necrotic. Again, it's not something I'd have a "wait and see" approach about.

| I think you need to get him to the vet sooner. I've been through this a couple times with different dogs. Odds are, you're looking at obstruction surgery and the longer you wait, the more tissue dies. |

| | Big Dog | I was in the same boat with you a few days ago. My girl loves to eat socks. She has thrown up 5 in the past and pooped one out. Since then we are extra careful got new hampers that are tall with covers and put her in the yard when its laundry time. I don't know what happened but she was not feeling well Friday morning, when my fiance came home from work she had pooped up 4 socks!! I felt so bad for her, she continued to throw up all night and had diarrhea like crazy. 24 hours later she was fine. Just made sure she had plenty of water and gave her some crackers and so boiled ck and rice to help settle her stomach. Now she is just a bouncy as ever. Still trying to eat the socks off of our feet though. I guess she will never learn and now the laundry is locked in the closet. I hope he is ok, keep us posted |

| I agree with the other posters. Take him to an emergency vet if you have to. My cat swollowed something and got it up, but it caused adhesions. They can get really dehydrated really quickly. |

| If he's acting like that, he will most likely need surgery. The sooner the better. |

| | Alpha | You need to get your dog to the vet for an xray to rule out an obstruction. Like the others have said, dogs can DIE from this. Also, with an obstruction the longer you wait, the more risk of bowel dying off and needing to be removed.
There have been several members on here recently who did the "wait and see" approach only to end up having surgery and have a much longer recovery and much more risk than had the surgery been done right away.
Again, I would recommend taking your dog to the vet TODAY for an xray - always better to have "wasted" money on an xray to know your dog is okay, than to end up w/ a dead or critical dog because you waited over the weekend.
Good luck w/ your dog. |
