| Lots of shedding? I just did the weekly bleaching of W's crate and found a TON of hair! What gives? He's being fed taste of the wild with some kefir. No other supplements (adding some vit C in shortly) and he looks lovely. Any ideas?

| Not sure where you are but my Gunner is shedding like mad too. I wasn't sure if it was from the stress of staying at the animal clinic over the weekend or the mild weather we've been having, but if I run my hand over his back there's always hair on my hand.

| | Alpha | Contrary to popular belief, it is very common for Dobes to shed. They are actually listed as medium shedders. Obviously, if you're noticing any other symptoms, ie... hair loss in noticable patches, fever, lethargy, etc... a trip to the vet is in order. Definitely could signal medical issues going on under the surface. Otherwise, I wouldn't be overly concerned. |

| | Big Dog | Two possibilities -- thyroid issues or lack of adequate protein. Our guys were shedding excessively in the coldest parts of the Maine winter, which seemed odd. Then I read in Dr. Pitcairn's book that shedding can be a sign of inadequate protein intake (raw hamburger mixed with calcium carbonate to balance the phosphorous/calcium ratio; and a raw egg with kefir) -- that was it for our boys. |

| It's getting warm here and my guy is shedding alot. It's mostly the longer, more pail, less coarse hairs so it must just be from the weather. I just brush him every other day and it has helped tremendously |

| | Big Pup | we've kind of grown used to it - finding black dobe hairs everywhere. We have dobe hairs in the refrigerator of all places. Use one of those cyclonic vacuum cleaners like Dyson and you'll be amazed how dobe hairs are everywhere on everything it seems. We try to brush/pumice regularly to stay on top of it - but they do shed. |

| Same here! I didn't realize that Dobes shed as much as they do.
It's just not as noticeable as a dog who sheds tumbleweeds!!
