My 9 week old puppy Mika has diarrhea a week ago, and the vet gave her some antibiotics due to parasites found in stool sample(I think it's giardia) and a chicken and rice diet. Her stool is now back to normal and doctor gave me Drontal to gave her when she's better. The breeder had wormed her at least 3-4 times before coming to me at 8 weeks old and doctor suggest i should give another dose of drontal when her stool is better. But I need to give her Interceptor for heartworm prevention next week, not sure if these two products can be used together? Because I read that they both control roundworms tapeworms etc.

The interceptor will work to prevent the parasites while drontal will kill them and in turn they will exit the body. I am sure your vet would not give you a medication you could not use. Why was your 8 week old puppy wormed so much? I thought worming meds were to be given every 3 weeks.

If you have any concerns, that is a vet question, or you could contact Bayer who makes the Drontal dewormer or Novartis who makes Interceptor.

I'm not sure why is she wormed so much but according to the documentation that the breeder supplied, she was wormed at least 3-4 times before coming to me, but exactly when does she starts worming her, I'm unsure.

If she's better, give the wormer now and intetceptor next week. I never give any two meds like that together...like vaccines and heartwormer or wormer and heartwormer. I try to space them at least five days apart, preferably a week.

i don't think any heartwormer kills tapeworms.
