| Brusco doing better! Brusco been on Vetmedin for about 1.5 weeks now and doing much better. Seems to have a bit more energy and not about to collapse after a bit of activity like he did before. Still sleeps more, but that's OK. He is able to be more of himself... guarding the house, playing with the Chi, suckling his stuffed animals, and giving tons of kisses.
He is on 20 mg a day (10 2x a day). His Holter results came back and while he had a bunch of PVC's he did not have any runs or even couplets.
I am blessed to share every day with him. I have decided not to put him on anything else and when the time comes that he is not able to be himself, I will sadly let him go see his Grandfather Dobe in Heaven.
Thank you everyone. You have been so kind. My heart goes out to all of you who have experienced this with your love as well.
Michelle

| Update on Brusco - what to do when we go on vacation? Hi Everyone,
I am so happy to say that Brusco is still with us and still on Vetmedin 20mg a day. No change in his meds. I'm going have another echo done early May as we need to go away a bit in May and June and I would like to know the status of his DCM. I am truly so very happy he is still doing OK. I never would have imagined this and his grandfather died so quickly, but we did not have this drug at the time.
We have not gone anywhere or left him for more than 1/2 day. What do you folks do when you have to travel? This is my biggest fear - that something will happen to him while we are gone. We do not have the option of bringing him with us.
We do not have anyone to stay at our home. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance, Michelle

| I am very sorry to hear that there is another struck by this disease I am glad to hear though that Brusco is doing well on the vetmedin. For those who the medications work a considerable amount of quality time can be gained, especially if there is no indication of CHF. ..... This is not my first dance with this disease either and I know what it feels like to find out that you have to face it again..... my boy Duece never did well, no matter what they tried with him.... he never stabilized at all.
My boy Boss was diagnosed in April 2012 and it sounds as though his symptoms and test results are very similar to Bruscos. Boss is so far doing very well and is only on Sotalol and some supplements there has been no real change in him other than what I have caused by not letting him get too amped up. I just spoil my boy rotten and take one day at a time.
Hoping for the best for you and Brusco. |

| It's great to hear that the medication was so effective at buying him a good bit more quality time.
As for leaving him behind when you have to travel, boarding him at a kennel, especially if your vet does boarding on the side (just regular boarding, not the "hospital ward" wall-o-crates), that would be the sort of choice that could put your mind at ease, at least you'd know someone is there and could try to do something, or at least notify you if he was to have a serious setback.

| | Big Pup | Brusco's DCM sorry to hear about Brusco . . . I too have been there. Daisy lived over a year in CHF, and she did amazingly well until the last few days.
She was never alone. She stayed with a trusted friend while I was at work, and other than that i never went anywhere. I was supposed to be a bridesmaid in Hawaii at my best friends wedding, and I ended up cancelling the trip. I just couldn't leave her.
Time is so limited when they have this disease . . . I never regretted putting my entire life on hold for that year. She deserved it.
Hugs and dober-kisses to Brusco and you, it is heartbreaking. |

| So glad to hear he's doing so well. It's such a refreshing change to hear some good DCM news.
Here's hoping the Vetmedin keeps doing its thing & you get loads more quality time with your boy.
Please let us know how the echo goes next month. |

Thanks so much!

| | Alpha | Hi and I am sorry to hear about your beautiful dog. I have never dealt with this disease and I hope I never do. I feel so bad for you, and am hoping he is around for a long time to come.
I wish I could help you with your trip. I pet sit for a few people here where I live, when they are gone, I stay at their house and take care of things. It's been a joy to help people, but I do get attached to their dogs, and well even a donkey and sheep haah. I don't know if maybe your local shelter could offer an employee who is trustworthy for you to contact? Just an idea.. I do alot for my people, so don't be afraid to ask them to clean up and such. Hope you find an answer to your delema, it's hard to go at times when you have pets.
I wish you and your dog well and will keep you in my prayers. Hugs from afar. |

| Brusco update: Not good. :( His EKG had a ton of V-Tach runs and his echo showed progression of his DCM. They wanted to keep him there for a few days and start an IV load, but I would never forgive myself if he died there without me, so I brought him home and we are starting 2 new meds. I trust his Cardiologist - great place but..... My poor Bunny... I know he is happier here with me. He gets so anxious at the Vet. He is glad to be home with Kobie his little Chi and Mom. Dad should be home soon. Prayers still requested. Thanks everyone!

| Sorry to hear that Brusco isn't doing very well. Hopefully, the new meds will help slow the progression of the DCM. I have been very fortunate that I have not had to deal with DCM, but so many dobermans are struck with this. I hope Brusco does well on the new meds. Thank you for the update and my thoughts are with you and Brusco. |
