| Is it bad to have 3 vertebrae in a tail? I was recently asked if my boy had more vetebrae in his tail "nubb" because it looked a bit longer than other docked tails.
Through comparison, though much wasn't different but a bit of length, I answered "Maybe he has 3". Unsure later on, I palpated the "nubb" and it in fact appears to be just 2...
He is 3 weeks older than some of the pups he has played with recently, and 3 days younger than one another.
So, despite special regulations in the tail docking world, my question is: Is 3 vertebrae bad?

| OMG, it's the most horribad thing in the whole dober-world!
Seriously, on a show puppy they would probaby be re-docked. On a pet it's pretty much an non-issue.

| I don't think he'll notice but maybe other docked dogs would get some tail-envy? lol
No, not a big deal.

| I like a slightly longer tail, than a shorter one.
- cover up their "chimpanzee" butt hole better / so their rear end, looks nice & pretty
If you ever had a dobe with a shorter tail, you would think a longer one...was a real blessing.

| Its hard to take a picture of his "nubb". All I have to do is look at him and it starts wiggling

| Pickles nub was a bit on the long side, I think, not sure, someone can probably tell me from this pic:
She developed a callous on the end of her nub in her later years I think maybe from sitting on concrete surfaces, I'm not 100% thats what it was. Maybe someone else will know. |

| It isn't a bad thing, but a Doberman dock has a standard cut of two vertebrate. Some people dock them like Rottweilers, so I guess it is better a little long, than a little short! Don't worry, it's not a big deal since he is just a pet!
This is what Brandy's dock looks like: |

| My way of thinking, Tanya's tail maybe just a weee bit short (from 1977).

| My guy's tail always looks a little long, too. I'm pretty sure that he has three vertebrae instead of two. The end of his tail is also scarred pretty badly, although it doesn't bother him too much - he'll sometimes chew at it. I don't think it looks great, but what are you going to about it!

| I personally can't stand the longer tails, would rather 1 vertebrae than 3. BUT its purely a personal opinion thing. When the tail starts curving a bit, that simply ruins the look IMO.
3 is not bad though. If it doesn't bother you, it really doesn't matter. |

| For all her conformational shortcomings, I do like Elka's tail length. As I stated in the tail thread, I don't like "rottie tails" on Dobermans. |
