I know this might be better suited under health, but it isn't a complicated question, so I thought I might get more responses here.

I searched for Chronic Active Hepatitis (CAH) in the forums and mostly found stories of affected dogs.

I just learned today that my boy's sire was diagnosed with CAH. He is on a controlled diet and medications and is doing well. However, I wonder if this might potentially affect my dog.. the dam was tested prior to breeding and continues to have normal liver results.

What I am wondering is, has anyone who has had a dog or known a dog diagnosed with CAH found this to be genetic? I.e. One of their parents also had CAH? Or is it just one of those things like cancer that just crops up and is luck of the draw?
