| | Big Pup | grape sized lump on muzzle (under whiskers) hi all,
this morning i noticed a lump on my girls muzzle, right under her whiskers - its about the size if a small grape
she often plays with a friends staffy pup who 'plucks' her whiskers, and wonder if its realated? (like an ingrown hair maybe? altho seems too big to me)
only other change is ive had a 'typical' JRT boarding here last two weeks, on her 1st day she 'nipped' my dobies muzzle during play, but no marks where left - no blood, no punture wounds (i checked my girl over very carefully)
it doesnt seem to be annoying her yet, any ideas? |

| The size of a small grape is a bit worrisome to me. Not panicked but worrisome. I'd keep an eye on it. If it gets any bigger, I'd get to the vet ASAP. If it doesn't go away within 1-2 weeks, I'd also get to the vet.

| First off I am not a Vet and a Vet visit is in order....
Have you looked on the inside of the lip/wisker area to see if there is any injury/scratch etc? If nothing is there and it is completely contained in the lip I would guess wisker pulling related. Either way, I would have the Vet verify.
I just came across a grape sized lump on my boy (near the pelvis/hip) and he is going in to get biopsied. May be nuthin', may be serious.... |

| | Big Pup | I do plan a vet visit if it gets larger, doesnt go down, or starts bugging her in the next few days
no marks on inside of lip at all, but two whiskers have been plucked right ontop of the lump, hence was wondering if trapped, ingrowm hairs could cause so much puss/whatever the lumps made of
anyone else had a lump on a dobe in same place? |

| There are "lumps" with whiskers growing out of them and these are normal. Check and see it the same lump is on the opposite side of the muzzle. There is also a lump under the dog's muzzle. Not saying yours could be something else but check and see if what you are noticing is the norm. |

| | Big Pup | its not a normal lump (as in its not ment to be there) its in her top lip, on her leftside right under her wiskers - not the lone ones further back on her cheeks |

| Could she have been bitten by something? I'd have a vet take a look just to be safe. |

| You might try putting warm compresses on it to see if it will come to a head and burst. A warm washcloth or same soaked in epsom salts should do. But then you have to make sure it heals from the inside out, so you can't let a scab form and stay or it might just reform.
If you don't get some results in, say, three or four days, I would take her to the vet. You might need some antibiotic ointment to squirt in the hole if it bursts anyway. |

| Can you post a picture of this thang? What is the surface of it like? A papilloma (viral wart) comes to mind, but I dunno. If it was an abscess of some sort, I would expect it to be both pretty ouchy and warmer than the surrounding tissue. Unless your idea of a grape is a whole lot smaller than my idea of a grape or unless the appearance of it makes it obviously a papilloma, I wouldn't be waiting on this... I would have the dog seen now. |

| | Big Pup | i'll post a pic tomorrow - its too dark now, its not a wort of anykind. you cant see anything on the skin, but theres clearly a lump/swelling under the skin, like shes got a fat lip.
Ive given her a piriton incase its a reaction to a instect bite/somthing else (worked wonders when she got stung by a wasp last year)
but doubt that is cause as shes been with me 24/7 past week- and she normally runs to me for comfort if so much as a butterfly comes near her |

| Just wondering if there is any update? Ever find out what it was?
Just so happens found the same thing on my girl last night. I am suspecting bug bite/sting. We are going in to the vet in the AM anyway. |
