| | Big Pup | Age/Weight Our female pup, Freya is nine months and currently weighs 54LBs. I've noticed that she is puuting the pounds on less now than she was 3 or 4 months ago, but I think that's to be expected. My question is do you think 54LBs is about right for nine months and what weight do you think she will reach in adulthood ? |

If she has a "waistline" when you look at her from above, and you can see a slight trace of rib when you look at her from the side, then she's "the right weight".
Weight at maturity is going to be determined by the amount of bone and substance the dog has. I've had mature bitches whose optimum weight was around 62 lbs., others weighed around 70#.

| Dozer is a couple of weeks past 1 year and last week he was 75.8lbs he's still pretty lean for a Male and I'm sure he'll put on more weight over the next year or so as he matures and fills out. He did accumulate a lot of weight pretty quickly as you'd expect and I'd say he leveled off around 6-7 months where he didn't really gain any weight but got a little taller. Which reminds me...I should see how tall he is now. |

| Lucan is 8 months and 70 lbs but has definitely slowed down in the last few months. He is quite tall and lean. From what I understand, they do most of their growing in the first 8 months, then continue to fill out until about 18 months. As long as you're feeding a good quality food and they're in good health, they will be the size their genes destined them to be! |

| Java at 2 1/2 is somewhere between 62-65 lbs, has the 'Barbie doll' silouette from above. Can just barely make out her ribs under her coat. She is still fed 2 cups home made food at each morning and evening meal. |

| It all depends on the lines. Some grow really fast reaching adult height and weight at less then a year old, others more more slowly. My Petey is 11 months and close to 95 pounds, he is from Euro lines. I think he is close to being done, although he just grew an inch and put on another 5 pounds, just in the last few weeks. I think you can get a pretty good idea how big she will be by looking at her parents.

| My puppy is 5 months and a male and weighs 42 lbs. I've read from other posts that he should be around 50 lbs. Both of his parents are large ( both maximum height, his dad is around 90 or so, his mom is around 80-85) I feed him a Raw food diet combined with Origen grain free kibble, and I've heard that Raw fed dogs can grow a little slower. He doesn't LOOK small, he has a nice tucked tummy and his ribs are just under his little fat layer, not sticking out, but even so should I be concerned? |

| No, you shouldn't be concerned. I'm a bit concerned though that everyone seems so concerned about the size of their puppies.

This is one of the many reasons I chose a dobe this time. I also avoided all the closer breeders who advertize oversized etc. because I don't want the additional problems with joints etc. A male dobe within standard is fine, a female may not be tall enough if she only reaches minimum standard.
I think mostly that people want to know their pups are growing correctly as a reassurance that they are feeding them correctly. Different breeds have different growth rates as do different lines but if your not familiar with these averages it can be a concern to a first time puppy owner. I have had a dobe before but she was an adult when I adopted her so I had no clue as to the growth rate.

| I just want to be sure that I have a healthy puppy that I am feeding enough. I have never had a dog before let alone a doberman, so all of this is new to me. I don't care if hes HUGE, i just want him healthy and happy. |
