| The one I heard wasn't good for some of them was Kodiak Topspot (or something Kodiak). I'm not sure it was killing them but was causing baldness at the application site. I know there are some that are not good for cats either but I don't worry about that because my cat would probably be demented and dying anyway if they ever licked my dogs. |

Revolution is fine - there are both dog and cat formulations, but the dog formulation is not toxic like the K9 Advantix is if cats are exposed.

I have cats but only use frontine. |

Pretty much the same thing as Revolution but the flea medication works faster and better, and it doesn't have that strong alcohol smell that Revolution has. |

So far (knock on wood) fleas have not been a problem. I have seen an occasional tick. (but only in June & July) and only on the dogs. The cats are inside cats so their chances are less in getting them. |

| | Alpha | Revolution is safe for dogs and cats and can be used on ferrets, bunnies and other pocket pets (off label use). This is the product I use most for outdoor cats or for treating ear mites in cats. Revolution can also be use to lice, sarcoptes mites, and cheyletiella mites.
Fort Dodge did pull its injectable heartworm preventative off the market voluntarily because of the rate of reactions - active ingredient was moxidectin which is also a horse dewormer - but has a much narrower range of safety compared to any of the other "ectins" |

| I have been using Ivermec for about 12/13 yrs for everything, heartworm, fleas, ticks and worming. This year I seem to have an abundance of fleas (warm winter)and thought I might use one of the other flea killers too. My vet said Revolution was the fastest and best along with the killing of eggs.
So Burns you are saying that Advantage Mulit is better than the Revolution?
Opinions please! |

Opinions please! | In the research I did for my work (granted, it is a cat-only clinic, but the flea medications in both of these products are the same), I found that the flea medication in Advantage Multi, imidacloprid, stops flea from biting in 3-5 minutes after application, starts killing fleas within an hour, and all are killed within 2 hours. It also kills larvae within 20 minutes of contact.
Revolution starts killing fleas within 12 hours, and all are killed within 24-36 hours. Quite a difference in time from the Advantage.
Everyone has their own preferences for products, but for my dog and cats, I prefer using the Advantage Multi to Revolution for a monthly heartworm and flea preventative. |
