Unhappy Salivary Cyst

Does anyone have any experience with salivary cysts? Reese has one that is about the size of an egg. He's been on an anti-inflammatory and an antibiotic for 3 days now. The swelling in his face has gone down but the cyst looks about the same. If it gets any bigger I am suppose to call the vet ASAP so he can drain it. From what the he said and what I've looked up it's not common, there are a lot of important nerves in that area along with major blood vessels and the two veins that make up the jugular vein. The treatment of choice is surgery but the vet is trying everything else first since Reese is vWD affected not to mention the possibitly of nerve damage. Anyone else been through this?

I can't offer you any info on that as I have not ever heard of it, but I will keep you all in my prayers.

I did have one case (springer spaniel) that did resolve with meds (antibiotics and steroid anti-inflammatories), but some do require surgery. I have sent a couple cases to the U of MN for surgery. You may want to consider asking for a referral to a specialty pratice or University if it comes to surgery (if you're not already at one or your vet doesn't have a lot of experience with this surgery). A university (and many specialty practices) will have blood/plasma on hand, board certified surgeons, and 24hour aftercare.
I would give the meds some time to see what happens.
Good luck!
