Itchy-Scratchy Dobie
I was wondering how to cure Mensa's irritated skin so she didn't need to scratch so much.
After seeing the Vet a couple times last week (Monday and Wednesday), and doing a few other things, I'm pleased to report that, for now, Mensa is through scratching.
On Monday (of last week) she was started on Cephalexin (antibiotic) and on Wednesday (also last week) Prednisone (a steroid, I think).
Her skin where it was irritated now looks much better, and better still, she hasn't scratched even once all week!
The Vet just called to tell me Mensa's thyroid is normal.
Last week I switched her food from Canidae (All Life Stages) to Innova Evo Red Meat (small bites) in an attempt to cut all the grains out of her diet.
She has been eating at least an avocado a day for about a month now and she loves it. It kills me, however, because after all the work my family and I have done to plant an avocado grove I thought I would never have to buy an avocado as long as I lived. That was before "The Great Freeze Of '07" wiped us out and we had to start over. Maybe next year we'll see avocados again. In the meantime the local Mexican Market sells them for about half of what the other markets get for them ($1 each vs $2).
Today, the Mexican Market had chicken feet for 85 cents a pound, so tonight the dogs think they've died and went to food-heaven.
And I'm pigging out on fried pig-skins with a big hunk of meat still on them that I think are called "chicharones". The perfect Football Food!
Thank you all for your help and suggestions!
