Meryl gets holtered

I thought you all would like to see Meryl making her contribution to science ....she spent Labor Day getting holtered. She was a good girl! Let's hope the results are great too.

I just finished Holtering my own (Rocket, Karma, Rory, Kismet, Zeke, Shelby) as well as Chai, Ruby (both rescue dogs), Spencer (byb), Jessie and Deacon (puppies we produced). Tapes being turned in on Friday ... also hoping for good results!

There's a holter monitor attached to the vest Meryl is wearing, she'll wear it for 24 hours. This is a machine that measures cardiac rhythm. Abnormal cardiac rhythm is frequently an early indicator of DCM, and can result in sudden death.

Hopefully Meryl will have normal rhythm. If not, they'll be able to put her on anti arrythmic drugs in an attempt to avoid sudden death.

Thanks Elaine for reminding us all to get this done. Rex will be getting his as soon as fall shows are over.

Thanks! And is this something that's recommended for all dobes?

Oh yes, it's estimated that 50% of all dobermans will develop DCM, and early diagnosis is really imperative if you want to extend lifespan as much as possible. People use it as a breeding tool as well, but the testing we have available today is actually of more benefit to the individual dog.

I still don't know what age to start this? Is it too early at 13 mos?
