| Thinking about chaging food. I've had Jordan on Canidae since I got him and switched him over very slowly from the junk food he was on. After the coccidia got cleared up his poo has been a very good consistancy but he still goes A LOT!!!! I'd have to say at least 5 times a day and sometimes up to 7-8. It is formed and not to smelly unless he's had a little extra peanut butter or if I don't remove enough marrow from the marrow bones. I'm happy with his slow growth which has slowed to about .25 to .5 a week if at all and his muscles are developing. His fur looks wonderful, shiny and skin is great. My only reason to think about a switch is the amount of waste he is producing.
He is now 61 pounds, 9 months old and eats 3 cups a day along with his treats for training, a couple vanilla woofers a day and marrow bones every three or four days (at least once a week).
It's been ages since having a dog his age but I don't remember them pooping so much. He's even been getting up in the middle of the night occasionally to go out and poop. He's had at least three negative stool samples the latest being yesterday.
I tried him on raw a few months ago and he had explosive diarrhea for a week and a half constantly and I gave up on that. All he tried at the time is chicken quarters.
Any other ideas? I love everything about the Canidae except for the poop part and Summer does extremely well on it also. |

| You could give the Raw another chance !! Most dogs will have the runs for a week or so when starting. I know you have read my posts....Petey Poops 1X a day....that is it....and holds it until we go for our run, weather it is morning, noon or night. There is NO POOP at all in my yard, worth every penny to buy all that meat!!! A dream come true!

| I was expecting diarrhea when we started it but this was so explosive it scared me. He would stand and squat and it would explode out and literally splash everywhere. I think after bathing him three times in a day is when I finally gave up.
Do you think with him a little older it would be less harsh on his belly? I'd love to try again. Summer loved it and I still give her a quarter just as a treat every now and then. I'd so LOVE one poop a day. Even two would be a dream for me at this point. Not to mention sleeping through the night. |

| If you are not ready to go RAW all the way, and want to transition up to RAW, you could try feeding home-made. The brown rice will help ease the diahrea. Add in cooked carrots, green beans, chopped apple, some boiled chicken or cooked ground chicken or turkey. Ease into it by adding 1/4 or 1/3 home-made to kibble, reducing the amount of kibble until you have finished the bag.
Java has less poop as well, notice the difference in the amount of stool when we travel and I bring a small bag of kibble as a back-up. |

This would work for Jordan....the rice would keep him firm. While I was trying to find a food that wouldn't give Petey piles of loose poop all day long...we did a bit of homecooked, Ground beef and rice....he would firm up completely, poop less and when we would go back on kibble...the fun would start all over again. Home cooked is a great alternative to Raw!

| Phew!!!! I don't even cook for my kids. LOL. I'm kidding of course. I may try adding some pumpkin and rice to the raw but I don't see me cooking. That is one thing I didn't try when putting him on raw because I figured it was so bad I didn't see it helping at all.
What would be a good time frame to give it a try. Should I see improvement in two weeks of feeding raw? |

I ended up going cold turkey with Petey, and it was about 3 days and he was firm. He ate lots of chicken on the bone, until he got picky, and I spoiled him, now he won't touch it! He would go loose with the addition of different meats, this week he had a ton of venison...and he was loose again yesterday, but had his lamb breast last night so should be normal again today.

| I have tried many quality (more or less) kibble foods and lately have been using Breeders Choice brands Pinnacle and Aviderm. It has produced the least amount of waste of any food I have tried, including Royal Canine, Solid Gold, Sensible Choice, Nutro, Eagle Pack, etc. I tried raw but when Hara nearly died and I had to spend close to $1000 on emergency vet bills when she contracted e-coli I gave up on it. I had never heard anything negative until I was talking to the emergency clinic vet and he told me he has had to treat several dogs for similar issues related to raw diets. Just my experience, I mentioned this on another forum and everyone either ignored it or jumped down my throat. |

| | Alpha | Raw is key. It has been great. A bit of runny stool at the beginning but its fantastic now. Solid muscle weight, shiny coat, clean mouth, and tons of energy are just a few of the benefits I'm seeing...
