| Uti We noticed over the weekend that Skyler was licking and biting at her vagina more than usual and it looked a little red, so I took her to the vet this afternoon. There was also a little urine in her crate one morning last week. The vet got a small drop of urine and tested it, and some blood showed up. He said he thought it was an infection, but took an x-ray of her bladder to check for stones, and thank God there were no stones. He gave her two weeks worth of antibiotics, and he wants to check her again on June the 11th. Has anyone's dog ever had a UTI? The vet said that 99% of the time that blood in the urine was nothing serious, just an infection. I am still a little concerned. I can't help it I am a worrier! |

They can be persistant, frequently needing more than a 2 week course of antibiotics to eliminate.

| Isabelle was the queen of UTIs when she was young. She was on many different antibiotics. I recognize the symptoms & now just take a urine sample in w/o her. She has had blood in her urine when she had an infections - not always though. Usually with her she'd try to pee many many times while outside with little or no pee. Sometimes she couldn't hold it. Blood in urine & peeing a tiny bit and repeatedly squatting with little or no pee. She also drips and is on phenopropaline (sp?) which she has taken for years. After we got the dripping under control she hasn't had many infections. Make sure you give her all the antibiotics and I'd take a urine sample in a few days after the last antibiotic so they can recheck her urine. Let us know how it all turns out. |

| I think that several people on here just recently had the same thing happen with their girls, and from what I know....they all got better very quickly. No need to worry!

| Don't worry, just be faithful with the anitbiotics, and get her urine checked on time so the vet can tell you if it completely cleared up or not.
If you are interested in a holistic approach as well, you can add 1-1/12 teaspoons of ACV to her water (or add it to moistened food) daily. It helps to level out PH levels internally. If you add it to the water, be sure to refresh her water daily. Cranberry supplements are also a great idea, even people take them to regulate urinary tract health.
Also be sure that she has access to fresh water at all times, it will help to flush her system. You may notice that she will need to urinate more often for a while as well. Be sure that she is able to go as often as she wants ( as much as to your ability, we all work I know!), so she isn't holding urine inside of her for very long.
Let us know how the check up goes! |

| Thanks to everyone who has replied. I will try the ACV. I just picked some up yesterday. I will let her out more often as well. I get UTI's myself, so I know it's an annoyance. She doesn't seem to be hurting or straining to go, thank goodness. I will give an update after her check up. Thanks again. |
