Blue Buffalo

I've been feeding the Blue Buffalo Large Breed Puppy food for 3 weeks now and so far so good. When I first got my pup she had some flakes in her coat and the vet said she needed better food. I've bathed her in oatmeal shampoo and mixed in the BBuff food and today no flakes and her coat really shines as you may have seen in some of her recent pics.

I tried looking for the foods that people here have suggested, EVO, Innova, and even Canidae (sp?), but they are really hard to find around here and the places that do carry it are a bit farther away from me. Plus 2 of the stores told me that it was hard for them to get it in regularly so I didn't like that chance. BBuff seemed like a pretty good choice considering the ingredients in it and availability and so far it seems to be doing her good. I mix in some cooked meat a few times a week to go with it as well. Just a heads up on how that's going for us so far. Thanx!

I don't remember if the dry version of Blue Buffalo is on the food recall list, but I do know the canned was because I was using that to top off my Canidae kibble. This would be something you need to check. After all of this recall mess, I totallly started making my own so to speak"canned" food. Also hoping the Canidae does not find it's way to the recall list.

Good for her!

I switched Rudi over to Innova EVO.....he's on his 3rd bag. I have noticed a huge difference in his coat with the flakies. And the biggest difference is his smell! I used to have to give him an oatmeal bath every 2 weeks because he would get a really funky smell......the flakes really didn't bother me (I'd squirt and wipe him down every day with a mixture of Keri lotion and water to keep the flakies at bay) Well, he's going on his 5th week now without a bath and smells what I consider "normal dog." I guess all the research paid off.....I'm guessing Mr. Rudi was allergic to grains.

I do add 1g of fish oil, but not every day.....3x week perhaps. I was doing that with his old foods too.

coat

Yeah the flakes are now gone and her coat and skin look pretty healthy now. That was a relief, I had a female Dobe before that had some bad allergies and I went through heck with her. So far I'm happy with the new food she is on. The main ingredient is deboned chicken and below comes from their site.

We selected BLUE’s ingredients based on a simple philosophy... if it’s not good enough for us, it’s not good enough for our dogs. Our BLUE Large Breed Life Protection Formula starts with deboned chicken, followed by plenty of whole grains and fresh vegetables. Compare BLUE with any other large breed puppy food, and you’ll see that our nutrition is unsurpassed.

High Quality Protein – Dogs love our tasty Chicken, and it provides them with the essential amino acids they need every day.

Wholesome Whole Grains – Hearty whole grains like brown rice, barley and oats supply the complex carbohydrates that your large breed dog needs for energy.

Healthy Garden Veggies – Whole carrots, sweet potatoes and garlic are three of the nutrient rich vegetables that your dog will get in every bite of BLUE.

Natural, delicious and highly digestible, our BLUE Life Protection Formula contains no by-products or artificial preservatives. Your large breed puppy will thrive on it!
