| Prolonged Heat Lena is now in week five of having active discharge and swelling. Yes, this is getting really old. I'll spare you my wife's description, but I'm sure you can imagine.
This is Lena's seconded season. Her first season was typical. A week going in, a week of, and a week going out.
We visited the vet on Monday and are awaiting lab results. Our vet also wanted to do some research before we go for an ultrasound. So the plan is to speak again on Thursday.
As always, your thoughts are most welcome.

| | Alpha | Wow Phil, I hope she's ok. I don't know much about this as FiFi just went through her first heat, which lasted 3 weeks of active discharge.
FiFi has the same panties as Lena, but I found them to fit very poorly with half the pad hanging out.... I ended up putting an old pair of my boys' underwear on her backwards, which fit much better - but the boys hated it of course, lol. Let us know what the vet finds out.

| | Alpha | What's her vWd status? Sometimes extended heat periods can be an indication of an affected dog being clinically affected.

She also had another bout of bloody diarrhea and is currently on Flagyl again. I don't want to overreact, but I'm worried.
Do you think I should ask our vet to do a bleed time test? I'm currently planning to hold tight until I speak with her again tomorrow. Of course, as I'm writing this, it dawns on me that I'm scheduled to be in an all day offsite meeting tomorrow. Oh well, always something. |

Do you think I should ask our vet to do a bleed time test? . | I'd *definitely* stress her vWD status to the vet, and see what they have to say about it. I know I've read veterinary abstracts in the past that mention excessive bleeding during heat periods and/or prolonged heat periods being seen in vWD affected animals, but (of course) I can't locate any of those abstracts right now.

| If it makes you feel any better Tamora`s heat was 35 days. I thought it would never end. Doctor was not concerned. All her blood work and tests are normal. You have my sympathy. |

| Sorry to hear that she has been in heat so long.
My selfish side says that I am so glad that Jada was spayed yesterday

The best fitting pair we have found so far came from Petsmart. The brand is Simple Solution and large works really well. They were around $20.
Per Murrydobe's recommendation we emailed Sunny Hill Designs. I don't think my wife ordered anything yet. I've posted their reply as I believe you will need a pair or two soon... sunnyhilldesigns@sbcglobal.net 17-Apr-2007 21:08
Subject Re: Britches
Donna,
Do I understand that you have a dobe? Is she standard size? If she is standard size, which is size 24, the price is $26.00. The panties are very adjustable. They are 100% cotton, I prewash the fabric before I make them. The legs are elastic for good fit and the belly band has velcro for belly size adjustment. They are completely lined w/flannel. You also need to tell me if you like wild or calm prints, bright, color preferences.
Advise,
Gloria Letsinger
