Stinky Dobes

I have heard mixed things about this...wanted more opinions.

My dog gets these random days where he just farts like it is his ultimate reason to be in this world! lol
Sometimes they are pretty stinky and can clear a room.

I don't think it has to do with anal glands because he's not showing any other signs. Plus, it doesn't have that metallic fish smell to it - it's just like a human smelly fart I guess? lol

I had one vet tell me that it was because he was a barrel chested breed - they tend to be gassy (sp?).
I have had other Dobe owners tell me that theirs are also gassy and others that say they aren't at all.
Then I had someone tell me that this may mean he's more likely to bloat - that statement obviously concerned me. They then suggested I start feeding raw - which is my ultimate plan but I want to make sure I really look into it to figure out the best source to buy from and make sure I'm covering all his nutritional needs. So until I feel ready, I don't want to start him.

I have changed his food a couple of times (he's currently on Blue Buffalo) and that doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

Anyone experience the same thing?

Dobergas... Some people swear by switching to raw as a cure all, but for some dogs it seems to make the gas worse. I've had great luck just feeding a grain free kibble (EVO) and the only time my guy has gas is when he's eaten something else he shouldn't have. He also has really firm poops which helps keeps everything else clear back there. The rotten fish smell is usually anal glands and not just gas, so you may need to take yours to the vet and have it checked out if it is a persistent thing. Hope you find a resolution soon!

Well 70% of the time kobe goes to a sit or play bow a fart follows. haha. Its funny sometimes we think he does it to get a laugh from us. We are on raw right now. How are the poops?

LOL funny you should mention it...
The other day we asked Quattro to "speak" and before he could bark, he let one rip and we couldn't stop laughing.

His poops are firm and seem fine.

Also, just to clarify, he doesn't have that metallic fish smell - that's why I assume it has nothing to do with his anal glands. No scotting, no nothing.

Max did it bad until he was around one. Not so much now. If he gets any people food it is worse. Treats and chewies are major culprits as well.

Fiona is on TOTW (grain free kibble) and she rarely has gas. Usually just when she eats a lot of treats during training or something.

Relatively normal, Try sleeping in the same room as two Dobes that seem to thrive on out farting each other!

However, after a night out with the boys and chicken wings, Daddy gets his revenge!

His food is also grain free, gluten free, bi product free...

Maybe he's just a stink butt? lol

Does anyone think this makes him more likely to bloat?

No more than any other dobe. They ALL have gas. Read up on bloat causes. Don't exercise him right after he eats etc.

Had one Dobe that very rarely farted (and she would get a fright every time she did), one that I'm sure was gas powered (farting while walking, when jumping on stuff, when she wagged her butt around when you gave her cuddles) and now Lottie who does it occasionally (usually after a big raw meal)

Lolli eats TOTW bison and rarely farts, like DW's dobe she acts like someone did something to her butt. To funny, when she whips around to see what just happened. Lots better then those silent stinkers !

Maverick and China have been on Innova Large Breed Adult food and at first there was no gas at all from either of them. Here lately he has been blasting one off every 20 minutes. Its so bad it makes me gag sometimes.

LOL - some of your responses are hilarious!

Maybe I should look into Taste of the Wild. I'll do a little comparison between TOTW and Blue Buffalo.

The last couple of days have been good days - ie. no farting! Gas mask free!
