Canine Caviar

I am very very very (I could keep going) upset about this. I sent them an email asking for more information. My dogs have eaten probably 10 cases of this stuff. One thing I will say is that they responded to my email within an hour, and offered me coupons and and an explanation. I told them there was no need, I would never feed their products again.

Oh, they said that the co-packer was adding rice.

Canine Caviar is voluntarily recalling less than 1500 cans in circulation nationally (not cases) and expects to have this collected within 48 hours of April 27, 2007. This unexpected situation is due to the fact that our canned food co-packer was using ingredients that were not authorized by Canine Caviar.

We are voluntarily recalling the following three can SKU's:

13.2 oz Gourmet Turkey - UPC 674555222134
13.2 oz Gourmet Beaver - UPC 674555221328
5.5 oz Gourmet Beaver - UPC 674555221557

dated best by Aug 21, 08 or later

All of the Gourmet Duck and Venison Tripe in the 13.2 oz cans are made to our standards, do not contain grains and are not part of this voluntary recall.

During the next few weeks, Canine Caviar will be out of stock on these three cans and recommends using the canned duck or venison tripe.

CANINE CAVIAR'S DRY FOODS, TREATS OR SUPPLEMENTS ARE NOT AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. THESE PRODUCTS ARE PACKED AT A DIFFERENT FACILITY. WE HAVE WRITTEN DOCUMTATION PROVING THESE PRODUCTS ARE MANUFACTURED TO OUR STANDARDS.

We apologize and have taken steps to increase quality control to ensure this does not happen in the future, we are demanding production records from all or our co-packers for all of our formulas before they are shipped to us. We have reviewed all of our other products and determined that they are free of any unauthorized ingredients.

There have been no illnesses reported related to feeding these formulas, however, to comply with the American Nutrition recall of the two products, we are voluntarily pulling all dates and batches of these two formulas.

Please return all cans of turkey and beaver to your store for a full refund.

Please email Canine Caviar at info@caninecaviar.com for free dry food and treat coupons for this inconvenience.

Respectfully,

Jeff Baker

I am so sorry. This is really becoming a bigger mess all the time. At least your kids didn`t get sick and than you found out.
I was in the same boat only a different product. I`m not buying anything made for dogs. Just people food until this all gets straightend out.

BIB -- thank you soooo much! I bought some of those at a dog show recently, just in case I needed food some day in case I forgot to take food out of the freezer for the dogs, and I thought the beaver sounded great for variety. But that's it, no more pre made ever ever again, not even the tiniest bit.

Glad you didn't have to live through sick dogs or worse!

I am actually scared to continue mixing in the rest of our Canadae with the homecooked food. I know it hasn't had a problem YET............but who knows what's coming??

Aaaarrrgh! That would really, really tick me off, too! I don't blame you for never feeding their food again. (I wouldn't either.) BUT if they won't offer you a refund, I think I might take the offer of the free food and treats anyway and donate it to a needy dog. I know a few senior citizens who just can't afford the premium stuff on a fixed income. Just a thought...of course that's a personal decision.

What really upsets me is the thought of my dogs getting sick. I spend the extra money to make sure that they are getting an excellent quality food. Well....come to find out, its not what they said it was. That makes me angry. "Grain-Free" Mmmmhmmm.

Needless to say....All dog food that was in my house this morning, is now in my garage in garbage bags.

We are now officially a 100% "raw-feeding" house. The dogs will be happy!

Don`t know where you buy your dog food from but my daughter took all her Natural Balance back to petco. She got a refund--$100 plus.
