I'm glad my thread had a happy ending, and I thank everyone for their thoughts and support. I will be following up on her progress with her cancer meds etc. in another thread. |

| I had to update as I simply cannot believe the change in this gal !
We have only had her just over a year, and since her first few months were doing chest repairs, then the cancer pain, this is the first we have really been able to get to know Swilly.
She is so happy, and that HUGE nubbins is going steady....she is instigating morning play with her siblings, which involves bouncing on and off the bed....
Coming up on two months post op now. |

| We have one small problem left, and that is how hard she is going at her old lick granuloma, and creating a new one.
I appreciated this link: StopLik - Lick Deterrent Aid
However I can't get that in Canada, it is vet order. I asked doberkim in a couple emails with no replies, so I wondered if anyone else could get this for me and I would paypal payment........I hate seeing her like that.
We are bandaging, and keeping one or the other under control.
Damn those rescue dobes with issues....lol !!! |

| I looked it up and unfortunately it's not sold by the distributor we use at work. I know my office manager won't open another account just to order one product. Another option for you might be http://www.dogleggs.com/index.cfm. They have some wonderful products that we've used and anyone can place an order with them.
Glad to hear she's doing great otherwise. Hopefully you can get this under control and she'll be good to go. |

.
The vet that I use for class IV laser therapy had given me a sample of a product I actually have not had to use (KNOCK ON WOOD) actually he is leaving his legs alone.
But this product seems like it may be easier to obtain than the other product again I have never had to use it. Nurtured Pets > Home

Damn those rescue dobes with issues....lol !!! | It's great to hear such a wonderful update. I'll try to keep Swilly's courage and don't-quit attitude in mind when life gets oogey.
As for the StopLik request--a couple times I've tried to help Canadian friends get vet products available only in the US, but the problem is that by law, the dog receiving the product has to be a patient of the prescribing veterinarian. Maybe someone more savvy than I will know a way around that.
I hope you can get it sorted!

| Maybe try something like tea tree oil? It helps healing, but tastes bad so they dog won't lick. You should be able to get it at any drug store. I bought some at the local grocery store in the herbal aisle.

| Hi, I realize it has been a long time since you posted your message about your dog's leg possible amputation. My doberman, Tessa, was just diagnosed with the bone cancer and may have to have her leg amputated. I am devastated, terrified, and hopeful at the same time that she will survive and be happy..Do you have any advises for me? |

I lost my Simon to osteosarcoma at the beginning of November. I highly recommend joining the Yahoo group "Bone Cancer Dogs." They are supportive, helpful and have a lot of good information. Unfortunately, EmilyB's Priscilla passed, too, though she did get a lot of quality time post-amputation.

I am devastated, terrified, and hopeful at the same time that she will survive and be happy..Do you have any advises for me? | Alina I am so sorry to hear about Tessa diagnosis, I second joining the bone cancer forum, there is so much information out there that can help. My boy had his rear leg amputated due to bone cancer and I think I was more upset than he was.
On the day I picked him up he came running out from the back pulling the vet tech all the way with the biggest smile on his face, I believe he was happy because the source of pain was removed (his leg was broken due to the cancer)
They told me he adjusted to the amputation immediately, he was pulling to get out side to go to the bathroom, someone who was there visiting their dog had asked how long ago was his leg amputated and they told him the day before and he was in shock that he moved around so good.
My vet who was against the amputation told me that he had changed his mind after seeing Thor. He said with a dog his size (102 lbs.. big boy a little overweight but not much he was just big) would not be able to hold his weight. He lived almost a year, but he also had his age against him, he was 12 years old when he died.
Good luck with Tessa, my advice is watch her weight and enjoy her while she is here
