Euro has Blastomycosis

About a month ago he was in the vet for a skin issue which was determined to be hair follicle dysplasia. Recently his front right paw became swollen and he stopped putting pressure on it. Initially i thought he cut his pad and had an infection. His right back leg then became swollen. he also stopped eating.

The vet checked him out and discovered his lymph nodes on those legs were very swollen. fluid samples from there resulted in him having blastomycosis which explains the skin problem. His paws became swollen from this lymph nodes draining. He had xrays done on his lungs which appeared to be clear whcih is good. He's on medicine for the next three months. Super happy he has insurance, the medicine alone is $852 for 3 months.

blasomycosis is a nasty disease but fortunately it hasn't spread to his lungs/brain etc. Just hoping for a speedy recovery. Can't even take him out for a walk bc his paws hurt so bad, and his appetite hasn't picked up yet

It's actually a fungus but nasty nonetheless. My wife got it back in October. Thank goodness for our drug plan... $654/month for the meds.... yikes.... It's takes a long time to get rid of it all too... she just stopped taking the meds last week.

Where I live we have a ton of blasto. One of the worst spots in the world. A lot of dogs die from it each year.

Hope he feels better soon!

I'm so sorry about your boy - but great that you are providing such good care for him and that it was diagnosed early enough for treatment. Sending vibes for a speedy recovery, poor guy!

So sorry your fellow is sick. Good for you getting right on it.

We'll keep him in our prayers for a speedy recovery.

Thank you for taking the time to post this.
I've just added this to the long list of things I've never heard of, but now thanks to DT, I can research and learn about.
I wish your boy a very speedy recovery.
