| Dang! Staph infection in the groin...neuter scar line... Eli has had puppy acne. I wanted him on an antibiotic when I took him in a couple of months ago for it but she said not yet she wanted to try a topical. This weekend I noticed the same large boil type bumps where they neutered him, along the scar line. Took him in today, they are open on Sunday and it is staph they think. I saw a different vet at the practice. The vet took a biopsy on two of them to make sure we are using the right antibiotic. He told me it could be caused by Eli being allergic to the stiches "inside" his body, gee right along that scar line. The vet said he has seen it before. He doesn't lick them excessively or anything which is why I probably didn't notice until recently.
I didn't know they left stitches in there I just assumed they would be the disolving kind. He was neutered about 3 months ago or so, he had no reaction and healed quickly with no redness nor swelling so what the heck? So, we are on antibiotics for 21 days and we watch them. I believe it is the stitches because what are the odds he would have a staph infection right on the scar line? I'm bummed. I know he has been stressed since I had to commute and am not home like I was.
He has a pet sitter who comes once a day and walks/fetches with him but it's not me nor as much exercise as he was used to. Our offer was accepted by the bank on a second home close to my new job so hopefully soon we can move and Eli will be back on track.

| | Alpha | Depending on the type of suture used, breakdown of absorbable suture can really vary. Some (like PDS) can last for months.
Occasionally, a bad suture reaction will require going in and removing the suture. I would ask what type of suture was used, so you know in the future if you go somewhere else (and ask them to put a note on his chart).
Wishing Eli a speedy recovery.

| Let us know what kind of suture. Priscilla had a horrible reaction and we had to have her wound surgery completely redone. I still don't know exactly what happened, but the vet said it was probably the suture used.

My old boy had PDS used on multiple surgeries w/o issue, but his last exploratory he had a bad SQ suture reaction. I removed said suture and he healed fine.
I have seen dogs/cats react to all types of suture.

| He is doing okay. They are slowly going away. I'm supposed to put hot compresses on them but I haven't been doing that because of my schedule and frankly I forgot. I will do so tonight. I am switching his meds because this is the pet walkers last week due to huge snow storm on the horizon *sob* so I can't give him medicine three times a day. I'll post what the new meds are, it is a once a day pill. I thought it would heal faster but like I said it is slowly getting better and the bumps are not angry or weepy anymore. He has a recheck in two weeks, after the meds are finished. He is oblivious to it still so that is very good as I wouldn't want him to be uncomfortable or in pain. I'm wondering if he is going to need those sutures out *sigh* . Thanks for asking. Quote:

| Thanks. They were greatly improved this evening. What a difference a day makes. I put the compress on tonight and will due so twice a day for the next week. I am ashamed I completely forgot that part of his treatment. I am also using Pyoben Gel on his chin and suture break out areas twice a day too. Quote:
