I DO understand the severity of the issue thats why within a few minutes of this happening, I came here for some advice because I knew it wasn't good. Yes I did decline the xrays at the E-vet because they wanted to send him home anyways. He was at the vet within 30 mins of swallowing the bone and they suggested xrays and a bland diet to see if it passes. It didn't make sense to do xrays if they were going to send him home right away anyways. I'll give everyone an update as soon as I know, thanks for the responses and concerns! |
I hope he will be alright. I personally think that it would have depended on the x-rays whether or not they would have sent him home. It would have given them an idea of what/where to look for the bone and then they could have compared to another x-ray taken a couple of days later. Now you probably need a barium flush to even locate it.
For future reference, the Sauerkraut needs to be given ASAP and as much as possible, not the next morning, so that it can coat whatever the dog swallowed. Some dogs throw up and with it the "object", others don't. I know it works.
Keep us posted on the pooch.
A friend of mine waited too long on his young Doberman. He took him in as well and then didn't go for the x-rays. The next morning, the dog was fine, played with his buddy, even ate. 2 hours later the dog collapsed and was not strong enough anymore to survive the surgery. This is serious business.
