| | Alpha | OK... she actually went back to the beef neck bones and worked on them for a while when I was gardening today. I was happy to see her blissed out on them... she ate quite a lot of the bone!
I swear I'm already noticing an energy increase (in a good way - she's 10). I didn't even think to see any differences before 2 weeks or so but I really think this is noticeable. I'm hoping we can work her off her allergy meds in time....
I found this local place that actually sells meat specifically for raw feeders. (I love the NW.) Their list of meat is below. What on this list would you grab up? Do you do beef cheeks? Is that actually a cheek and pure meat?

| EVERYTHING on that list is a really good price!!! especially the beef prices! yes, beef cheeks are just plain meat.
as a new feeder, i would pick one thing and feed just that - probably chicken (always a staple around here). chicken leg quarters are a nice one to feed.
whole beef necks are nice. (bones not entirely edible most of the time)
lamb necks whole are nice (typically not entirely edible either)
whole rabbit (entirely edible)
whole chickens (entirely edible)
and then some organ meat. and literally, that could be a PRETTY good diet for a dog. and those lamb/beef prices are VERY nice - certainly lower than what i pay... damn.

| Suggestion is to start slowly, feed one type of meat for 1-2 weeks at a time and then add others. I think most of us started with Chicken parts. The more variety you feed the better for your boy. You are lucky to have a great source for your Raw! I on the other hand will be heading to Shop-rite for those Chicken parts @ 49 cents a pound, and buying about 20 pounds.
Join the Yahoo raw feeding group....they email you everyday and it is a great place to learn about what and how to feed Raw.

| | Alpha | Do you think feeding raw, promotes good bone density, or growth in a pup or dog. Have any of you found a difference in structure of the dog after eating raw a few months down the road? |

Have any of you found a difference in structure of the dog after eating raw a few months down the road? | I would think that bone density would be genetically predetermined and as long as a puppy got the right balance of minerals, vitamins, proteins, etc. which kibble companies study and add to their foods, a puppy should grow correctly to their preprogrammed size. Unless they aren't doing well on kibble, which is one reason we made the switch. Petey was only 19 pounds at 10 weeks old, all of his siblings were much bigger and just looked healthier, he had a poor coat, chronic runs, no muscle tone, he didn't seem to be getting all the nutrition the kibble had to offer. Because of his IBS we made the switch to raw at 20 weeks old, that month he put on something like 16 pounds (my memory is fading) I think he was able to absorb more of the nutrients in the food. He immediately started pooping only once a day. I had spent every waking moment worrying about his bowel issues, not to mention the money spent on different kibbles, several vet visits, antibiotics, digestive enzymes, etc. I wish that I had switched him at ten weeks old, I would have gotten to enjoy his puppy-hood more!
There are several breeders here who start all their puppies on Raw from day one, I'm pretty sure Jenny's beautiful Vader has never had a drop of kibble.
