luna is 19 weeks old and about 35 lbs (yes, she's petite). we currently feed her about 3 lbs a day at about 1 lb per meal; although for the past few days it seems as if she is phasing out her mid-day meal, so we're feeding her a little less at her second meal. our vet told us she would probably do that.

it is recommended that puppies be fed up to 10% of their current body weight. here is a raw food calculator link: http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.co...htm#calculator. the rest of that website is pretty cool, too, if you are into all things holistic.

here's another good page on raw feeding (my next puppy will most likely come from this breeder...if she's still doing so in two years!): http://www.kinetic-unity.com/nutrition.html

Thanks for that link....I may need to feed Petey more, he was extremely hungry yesterday and today. He is 21 weeks and close to 60 pounds, so that could be up to 6 pounds of food? YIKES! I run him off lead twice a day too, once for around 1.5 hours and a second quicker run with a pack of dogs. I better get a scale and start weighing.

Thanks guys! I loveee the RAW yahoo groups. Those people seem to know a thing or two.

The Calculator is helpful also. I'm going to start them all on Monday when Rowen is home from Vets.I think I'll start with chicken quarters and stay with chicken for a few weeks, and then maybe some pork or turkey. Should I wait to feed organs until later on? Or maybe only try a table spoon full? Ohh yeah, before I forget... (I was too embarassed to ask at the group) What in the world is green tripe?

It is the stomach of the cow....full of grass. I found a company that makes a canned tripe...Tripet. I have it on order at my Petstore. From what I understand....it smells really bad!

Greentripe.com - it is pure tripe. Yes, it is smelly but it is just like candy to them. They love it.

I would introduce organs in a bit. Careful not to give too much at a time either or it can cause diarrhea.

If they do get diarrhea, you can give some pure canned pumpkin.

I would not feed any organs for the first week, and then just a few bites at a time.
Isn't the canned tripe cooked? That would kind of defeat the purpose of raw feeding. I buy my raw tripe from Hare-Today, dogs love it, but is smells so bad.

I was reading the nutrional part of GreenTrpe.com, and they recommend one day of fasting a week for adult dogs...To cleanse the body of toxins? Any heard of this, or practice it?

Yes, when they are older - over 2 I fast them one day a week. I guess you can not consider it a full fast for I do use hotdogs for tracking on that day. Not much though.
