| Skin Tag My 8 year old dobe has two fatty "things" hanging from him. One on his chest, and one on his neck. One is fairly large. Hangs down 1/2". Feels soft, like a fatty clump. He doesn't like me to squeeze it.
Is this just something they get when they get older? He's not a young 8 year old either. Any advise would be appreciated. |

| Got any pictures of them? Could be a wart, but doesn't quite sound like it. I think you are right in assuming it is just a 'tag' which some older people and dogs can get. Just keep an eye on them, if they bleed or enlarge you might want your Vet to remove them and send them off to make sure they are not some kind of tumor. |

| My Dobe started to get skin tags when he was around 7 or 8. He's now 10 and has some rather big ones on him. The vet said that as long as they don't bother him, she prefers to leave them alone. Two are on his elbows, and I guess taking them off would cause more problems than leaving them alone. He would need stitches if the ones on his elbows were taken off, and so she didn't want to put stitches there if it wasn't necessary. If they start to become a problem (i.e., rubbing on the ground and getting sores, catching and ripping on something, etc.) then we will surgically remove them. They don't seem to bother him at all.

| Some {families} of dogs in any breed do not age well, just as it is the same with us humans. I have had dogs who were 12 and still had rock hard toplines and could run circles around younger dogs. My male Stormy will be 8 in April, most people think he is just a yungun as he definately looks and acts like one. He has never been sick a day in his life, not a bump or lump on him. Knock on WOOD!!!!

I agree, I have another dobe that will be 5 this Feb, and he acts like he is 2. He can eat coke cans and no problems. |

| is it a skin tag or a fatty tumor??? I cant see a skin tag that big... my friend has a dobie about 8 and she has quite a few fatty tumors... but as long as they are not in areas that make her uncomfortable or dangerous she is not worried about them. I know one under her rib cage is like the size of a raquetball.

| I need to take the time to get a picture of it. The one under his neck is like a skin tag. The one between his ribcage, looks fatty, but only about the size of a penny but hangs down like 1/2" |

| They are not dangerous in themselves, but if they are in an easly accessible place by another dog while playing, they could be chewed on accidentally and that could be bad. |
