I will admit that going through a dog's heat cycle, being the first time I experienced it, was the worst 6 weeks of my life. The sluttiness was an understatement. If I wasn't paying attention, my foot would be violated by her. Ugh.

At what age should we expect her first heat? She just turned 5 months....doesn't sound like a fun experience.

We had susie spayed 3 months after her 1st heat, and have had no problems yet.

On the other hand, we had a previous blue female that we spayed 3 months after her first heat like recommended and she did develop a problem. We bought several leak proof medical pads. We place these on top of her bed, and if she had an accident we just soaked it and placed an other one on top. You really don't know if you will have a problem.

Our last female developed her heat at 8 months, susie was 11 months.
