Question Squirting Yuckies Out the Rear

Now, I understand that dogs are supposed to release some of the smelly from the anal glands when they use the bathroom. Do they release it any other time?

For the last two weeks, my dobe has been unconsciously squirting this liquid out of his rear. I cannot be certain that it is the same yuckies. It seems clear and (to me) it smells metallic. It is almost like the smell of a stinky doorknob or thousands of dirty pennies being washed. I would not say that the smell is out of this world, but I do have a pretty high tolerance in that area (probably not something I should brag about). His anal area is not infected. Just to be sure, I brought him in for an expression but groomer said it was not necessary as they were not impacted at all.

This happens about 2-5 times a day--normally during his nap or when he barks at the mailman. He does not realize it immediately but once he smells it, he feels embarrass and tries to clean it himself (the carpet too). His butt does not seem to bother him any other time (no itch).

As for his diet, I cannot name anything out of the ordinary. We have been switching foods but recently went back to the food when he did not have this problem. He is eating partial raw and moisten kibbles. Kirkland (Diamond), Merrick, Halo (Salmon), Canidae, back to Kirkland.

Your thoughts? Thank you in advance.

The metallic smell is definitely anal glands. It's a very unique smell, for sure. lol.

I think that can happen under anxiety, stress, excitement, etc. This happens to Cinny more than any other dog I've owned/known and she's not impacted either.

I agree w/Lyngr...sounds like anal glands. I'd bring him in to the vet for an exam...I know groomers can express anal glands, but I prefer to have a vet do it...there might be something going on there that the groomer couldn't detect.
