I have a 9yr. old female Doberman. She had a hard time settling down last night & then this A.M. her ears are very swollen. Occassional haed shaking & more bodily itching than usual. Ears are clean w/ no bruising. One more noticed behavior, obsessive nail groming. I mean real severe for a couple of weeks now. I just was thinking it was maybe an age thing and because she likes to be pretty. Just her nails though. Loves to be outside, fenced in yard, near the canal. Loves wildlife. Eating and drinking fine. Any ideas?
What do you mean by swollen? Are her ears cropped or natural? The head shaking thing sounds like an ear infection to me. If the ears themselves are swollen, she may have a hematoma. They will develop these from excessive head shaking...usually from an ear infection. It would require surgery to drain the hematoma. I would get her to a vet asap.

You are going to have to think here as this sounds like an allergic reaction to something new she has come in contact with. Have you changed her food, shampooed the carpet, changed laundry detergent?
What food do you feed her? The body itching and licking the feet are symptoms of an allergy or a sensitivity. Also yeast infections of the ears can be the result of reactions to some ingredients in food. Commonly ingredients that cause reactions are corn, wheat, soy, beef and chicken.
I would recommend getting her to the vet ASAP - she could well be having an allergic reaction - much more common than food would be a bug bite or bee sting.

I agree with reddobes, sounds like an allergic reaction to perhaps a bug bite. See your vet.
