Clean margins are a good thing. One of my dogs (who I lost recently but not to cancer) grew skin melanomas all of his life. Over the ten years I had him we removed at least 6 skin melanomas. The first was malignant and so was the fourth and fifth.

All of them came off with clean margins but because of the history--he wasn't two when the first one showed up I had any and all lumps and bumps checked and removed very early. Melanomas aren't as serious on dogs for the most part as they are on people. Those in mouth are bad and maybe on the feet.

Good luck--the first of my dogs melanomas was removed by an oncologist--all the rest were done by his regular vets in the clinic where I work. We biopsied everything that came off of him though.
