| Urgent response needed........ Baruch has pooped in the house this morning just minutes ago, it was runny, I thought it was throw-up. It had a gel like consistency and what looks like blood in it. I put him outside and he is still trying to poop but it is just some liquid. Otherwise his behavior is normal and he ate his breakfast with no problem. What should I do, should I be conserned?

| It could be worms, it could just be a touch of colitis, it could be worse....get a stool sample (pick up that nasty one in the yard?) and take it in with a quick check up. Better safe than sorry. |

| Pig ears always gave Java a very loose stool, which is why she doesn't get them any longer. Mucus and blood streeks could be coccidia (sp) - dogs get it when they eat another animal's feces (and puppies eat everything - yuk). If it is cocci, feed him a mild diet - cooked rice, plain yogurt, maybe even a bit of mashed banana. Canned pumpkin (not the kind with pie spices and sugar) will help to bind the stool. Make sure he's drinking enough water.
Attitude is the best indicator - when Java had cocci, she just wanted to lay low. Once the meds kicked in she was back to her busy puppy self! Hope it's nothing serious! |
