| UPDATE on Baruch Just got back from the vet. They checked his stool sample and did not find any parasites. They gave him some Metronidazole for G.I. upset. and sent us home. He is still energetic and his normal self. They told me he may not poop for a day or so on the meds and if he vomits or his behavior changes bring him back in.
So far so good.
And thanks to all for your input. If anything changes I will be posting. This forum is a good comfort.

| Glad to hear everything look OK. Just closely observe your guy for a few more days, just in case you notice any more symptoms. |

| Should I be worried?? I think I might have found the problem. I found a snake carcus on the driveway, dried, and with sharp bones. Yesterday one of the dogs brought part of a snake to the door and I threw it away. There must be more of it around here. If this is what caused his G.I. upset could he be in trouble? Should I call the vet and get him x-rays or just wait for him to show signs? Those bones were sharp! I am worried.

The dose is 500 mg for every 20 pounds. The new one celled organisms often require 14 days of medication to exterminate. Several can only be found with a special test. Since the test runs $90 and you can buy 500 metronidazole for less than that it is usually easier to just treat for it. The only side effect is it can cause loose stools(yes because it kills the good bacteria too) so add a spoon of live plain yogurt into the food. Also a great antimuculative is raw garlic. If after the medication the mucous ever comes back, try it. I always chop up half a clove if I have a stool looking ify. I will warn you it increases the odor. Hope your pup is feeling better. They always find the stuff you don't want them to find. Anne |

I have to give him 1 tablet every 12 hrs for 5 days. They are 500 mg. I will give him some yogurt.
I am also worried the bones, if that is what he swallowed, might puncture something.

| Since the sanke died & he wasn't cooked your pup should digest the bone with no problem- raw bones are ok. ALthough I am not sure if any of the resident raw feeders feeds snake. I never have.

Hey - what vet school did you go to?
and what, pray tell, is an antimuculative?
