swollen toe

yesterdy I noticed zeus was walking light on his rear right foot. not overly so.....and when I looked at it I saw nothing wrong.

so this morning he was really limping.I looked again and felt all around his foot and could find nothing except his outside toe is swollen now.he really did not want to sit still and let me feel his sore toe! wiggle wiggle wiggle!!!

so I am wondering what might have caused the sore toe.I hate to bring him to the vet again.....as it seems like I am there once a week! just two weeks ago he had the mouth swelling! so do you think he jus srained it? or stepped on it wrong and it will get better in time? gezzzzzz.....our training class is tonight and we have missed like 3 classes! the first due to mouth swelling....then bad weather for the last two.....now we have a swollen toe!

It could well be fractured. The other common cause of dramatic swelling is a foreign body - something like a sliver or piece of a thorn, awn or other plant material gets jammed into the foot and they can get a secondary infection/inflammation.
I would highly recommend an xray of the foot to rule out a fracture or dislocation of the toe.

Can dogs get histocytomas of the toe? It kinda looks like one in the picture. Maybe you could soak it in epson salt and warm water and look to see if anything is working it's way out. Of course I'm not a vet so you can't listen to me. Just thinking out loud and want you to know I'm thinking of you.

first thing I think of seeing the picture is it might be broken. Not sure what they do for that - like a human toe fracture, you just let it heal.

Could he have gotten stung by something? That just looks HUGE! If not a sting or break I agree with reddobes that something is hiding in there. Once Kona had a similar swelling, not quite as big, and after searching with a flashlight and magnifying glass (with help holding the paw) I found a very small shard of glass she must have picked up from a walk. Fester, fester, fester...

I have looked it over 10 times or more and cant find any signs of something in his foot.I dont know what he did to it! I did however start giving him the antibiotics we had gotten for his mouth. I hadnt gave them to him since when the vet lanced the mouth it was clear....and she gave him a shot of penicillin.

so for now I guess I will give him the antibiotic and a asprin a day and see how it goes. if it gets any worse or not any better I will call the vet again.

thanks for all your ideas
