Keep a close eye on the toe. Roxy had a secondary infection and it continued for at least one month with antibiotics.

so for now I guess I will give him the antibiotic and a asprin a day and see how it goes. if it gets any worse or not any better I will call the vet again.

thanks for all your ideas

I'm not sure that giving him antibiotics prescribed for a previous infection is a good idea..

I noticed he has long toe nails and could easily of caught them on something and sprained or broken his toe. The toe looks dislocated or perhaps broken in the picture. If the swelling does no go down in a day or two, I'd take him in for an X-ray.

Good luck, Tracy

P.S. Try and get those toe nails shorter so he doesn't injure another toe in the meantime.

The tissue in between the toes looks red, and inflamed. I think it may be an abcess brewing from either a foreign object or a sting.
Let us know how it goes. A good foot soaking in a warm saline solution would help no matter what the problem is.

well after quite some time zeus's toe is still swollen........although he is and has been walking on it. I brought him into the vet today for his microchip and had her take a look at it and get a x-ray.I figured it was broken since I never found any sign of a wound.....yup she said the p-2 joint. it is healing the vet said it will just look a bit bigger.....but there wasnt anything to really do for it. she said they can bandage and put a spoon thing on it.......but those often cause worse damage. so to just let it be and take it eazy for 4 months.
