| | Big Dog | Freaked Out! Only 1 eye is dilated I woke up in the middle of the night (just a few minutes ago and decided to let the dog out). When he came back in I noticed the wierdest thing.....one of his eyes is dilated but the other is not.....the other pupil is about 50% or more smaller than the other. Its not a pinpoint but noticably much smaller. Freaky looking in fact.
I never noticed his eyes ever doing that before. Everything else about the dog seems fine. The only thing out of the ordinary is he got microchipped today. My dog will be 1 yr old next week. Is this normal or should I be concerned? |

| Definitely not normal. Probably not related at all to the microchip, though. Did he bonk his head on anything? If it persists, I would recommend a visit to the vet, with a thorough cranial nerve exam.

| Last Summer Petey hit his eye while shaking a toy, we never even saw it happen....he ended up with an eye injury just like that. I took him to the Vet ASAP and his pupil was dilated with meds, and he was put on eye drops for about a week. IMO go to the vet!

| | Big Dog | Thanks everyone.... woke up in the AM and both eyes are the same now. If i shine light in the eyes both are dilating at the same rate and contracting when I remove the light. Totally wierd how they are normal now. Ill keep a close eye on his eyes!!!! |

| Yikes! That IS weird. Even tho it's normal now you may still want to just call your Vet and ask about that...

| I second the advice on still consulting the vet. This may be a warning sign of neuro problems.
And, Dobekiss, may I just say I adore the looooong Dobernose on your avatar dobie?
