| Vegetables & friuts How many of you incorporate veggies and fruits into your dogs diet? Do you buy fresh veggies or the frozen kind? Do you grind them in a food processor or just cut them into small chunks? What vegetables and fruits do you feed? Do you guys feed these on a daily basis?
I have been feeding fruits and vegetables and my dogs seem to be doing very well with their diet.
Some of the veggies and fruits that I feed are sweet potato, carrots, pumpkin, broccoli, spinach, green beans, bananas, blueberries, applesauce (plain or organic). I try to rotate most of these into a daily diet.
Opinions welcome! |

| If you cook the veggies, does it take all the nutrients out? I feed mine without cooking. |

She LOVES fruit, right now we are eating blueberries and strawberries, they are oh so yummy. She also loves bananas. Havent tried anything else yet.

| I cut up a watermelon in wedges and give it to the dogs - OUTSIDE - whole. They eat the red flesh pretty fast then crunch on the rind with watermelon juice running all over.
I also give whole strawberries and baby carrots which are eaten rather quickly. When I am cooking, any fresh fruit or veggies that I am using, with the exception of onions, garlic or grapes is usually offered to them.
I've heard grapes are bad for them, and who wants a dog with garlic-onion breath?
I have found that they prefer sweet things or crunchy things. |

| I often give Zaccy a raw carrot to chew on as a healthy treat. He loves it! It's the only thing he actually chews - everything else disappears without even touching the sides, but he crunches and crunches on a carrot and ends up with foam all round his mouth, Cujo-style. It's very cute to watch . |

| I make Lexx "veggie muffins" and supplement his raw with them. Some people think that they are not required, but I like giving them to him. My muffins contain a variety of fruits and mostly vegetables, leafy ones and root ones, carrots, broccoli ( in small amounts) lettuce, spinach, etc etc, whatever is on sale. I blend them all into a paste and pour it into muffin sheets. Those then go into the freezer and voila, meal sized veggie portions!
also carrots, apples and other fruit chunks for treats every so often!

| I make a fruit and veggie blend for my gang. I put them through the food processor, mix with canned pumpkin, freeze in large yogurt containers (have to have some use for the number I have from feeding them yogurt too). I put in apples, cranberries, blueberries, garlic, spinach, carrots, turnip, zucchini, peppers, green peas. Those are the usual, all fresh except the berries and peas (use frozen). I add in things that are on special, depends on the time of year. They love the stuff, I can put it in their bowls without meat and it still disappears quick. They each get 1/2 banana in the morning too. I read an article by a vet and my own vet seconded the ideas, saying that one of the best things you can do for your dog is convince him he likes fruits and veggies- the antioxidants are great for cancer prevention (or I hope so).
