| Ataxia/Wobbler Syndrome On friday night I let my Doberman out to go to the bathroom before we went to bed and everything was normal with her. I let her in 10 min. later and she could not walk straight, falling over, walking in circles, and unbalanced. I took her to our local emergency hospital and had blood work and ethlene gylocol tests performed-everything was normal, negative ethlene gylcol test. The next morning I took her to my regular vet and we set up an appointment for Monday to perform x-rays of her neck and spine and given rimadyl for pain. So far everything has been normal-eating, drinking, eliminating, she tries to play and run, but she is still off-balance and uncoordinated, not in pain as far as I can tell. Shotzy actually is more coordinated running than she is walking or getting up and when she shakes her head, she will fall over. I am not sure if Wobbler's is in her genetic background and she has never shown any symptoms of this syndrome. Has anyone out there had this problem or have any ideas about what is going on???? |

| I'm very sorry you are going through this with Shotzy. It must be frightening.
Any improvement. Did you and your vet figure out what was going on?

| Might ask vet about vestibular disease considering rapid onset. If wobblers, I have had great success with acupuncture in combination with drug adequan.
Best wishes for happy resolution to problem |

| This sounds more like an inner ear problem or head trama then wobblers to me.
Let us know what the vet says please?
I hope the problem is nothing serioius. |

Google idiopathic vestibular syndrome - it sounds like what happened to her, and fortunately, it generally resolves itself with supportive care over a few days although there may be a couple of lingering side effects like a head tilt.
It happened quite suddenly to one of my past dogs. |

| I took Shotzy back to her regular vet this morning and he said it is probably not Wobbler's, not a slipped disc, and most likely not vestibular disorder(she has no head tilt, nor did he find any sign of an inner ear infection). Shotzy is doing much better today compared to Saturday morning, she actually wants me to play fetch with her. My vet recommended that I take her to Neurologist if the condition persists - I have set up a consulatation appointment for this Thursday to see what they say. The only thing my vet recommended that Shotzy take right now is Rimadyl. |

Dancing eyes is easiest way to tell vestibular. My vet at first was worried that my dog had ingested something. Apparently food poisoning/baccalism, etc can have similar symptoms in dogs. My dobe had 2 or 3 instances of dizziness/floundering over several days and it has never reared its head again |
