| | Alpha | I thought we were turning a corner.... So just curious...Jager had to go cold turkey while changing his food. I switched him to Pro Plan Puppy for large breeds... I have been mixing in rice/hamburger/pumpkin and he was doing great. As I have begun to decrease the rice mixture and increase the new dog food his stools have gone again from solid to well watery....is this common? He has lost A LOT of weight and I know I have posted about this what three times now? Can you say, feeling helpless to help my puppy????
I do go to the vet again tomorrow afternoon (third visit) but they are really pushing a prescription food and well since we do want to go RAW (waiting for the hubby to come home from overseas duty...yeah!!!) that would mean switching his food four times in a six month period.
Just curious, I know some of you were able to mix the old food with the new....but thought maybe some of you could offer experiences.
PS His bowel movements have really stunk!! Common with this food? Should be fun trying to scoop up a sample for tomorrow's visit....
Oh and they have ruled out Parvo, worms, and allergies.... |

| I would give him boiled chicken & white rice. Put it in a food processor & blend it up. I'd keep feeding the chick/rice until he was solid again and then slowly start adding in actual dog food. Like a 1/4 cup at a time maybe. Chicken is easy to digest.
Vader eats raw. |

| Add some slippery elm powder (you can get this in a holistic store)to the food, I think its 2teaspoons 1x a day. It will help with the runs and the stomach upset. I have a dog with a very sensitive tummy. |

| maybe its time to think about having different meals, one kibble and one raw as you are planning on going to raw. The bones in the raw help firm up stools. Keep the pumpkin going too, but in small amounts. How many meals are you doing? if using pro plan, try the selects, they are better quality.

| I would go with prescription hills i/d it is good and they tend to like it, or medi-cal gastro canned was the favorite with the dogs at the vet has a nice sweet smell to it, and just leave him on it for a month or 2 then wean him off to whatever you want to go with.
Maybe all of this rich food is too much for him?
What about trying a really low quality grocery store housebrand and see how he does?
I hate to admit but i was in a jam for cash and dog food and got no name dog food for my dog and her stool has never been more solid and uniform, well no name food and raw were what she had the most uniform poops on. |

| I've never fed a puppy food, even to puppies. If it were me I would switch him to the Pro Plan for Sensitive Skin/Stomach.

I guess I am not a good candidate for a prowomen activist group!! |
