| | Alpha | So...the vet said...don't know what to tell you. Again no worms and as matter of fact thought his stool color looked pretty good (of course right after Jager went and it was solid and healthy!). He said he could have just gotten into something that didnt settle with him on top of adjusting to the new food. He has gained three pounds since the last vet visit and even though the vet said he could stand to gain a few more that he looked good and healthy and more than likely in a middle of growth spurt. No worms...but gave dewormer just to be safe....sooo.. I guess it is a wait and see.
He also said and I thought this was interesting that if he isn't vomitting, having blood in his stools or not watery for a long period of time to wait and see. He said I would go broke every time my puppy got into something and had loose stools...every hear a vet say that??? |

| You know maybe you are feeding him too much at a time. I am not sure if this was brought up on one of your other threads or not.
How old is he? How much does he weigh? and how many cups are you feeding him each feeding? How many times a day are you feeding him?
I have had dogs all my life and I have never had one with this problem. Also had numerous doberman puppies. |

I have had dogs all my life and I have never had one with this problem. Also had numerous doberman puppies. | Jager is 20 weeks this Thursday, he weighs 32 pounds...according to the new food package I should be dividing 3-4 1/2 cups between feedings. So I have been giving 1/2 cup rice, 1/2 cup hamburger, 1/2 cup Purina Pro Plan1 TB pumpkin, at both feedings. I moved the 1/2 cup of Purina to 3/4 cup after two days and runny stools so I am back to the original for three days and to try to increase after that....I was feeding a lunch but he stopped being interested in it although at dinner time he is ready! Too much??
PS I started with 1/4 so the above is what he is getting now.... |

| I am thinking that four/five cups a day would be appropriate for a normal size pup. At five months he should weigh around 40/50#. But since I can't see his size I don't know what he should weigh. Above is a generalization.
It looks like you are feeding him the right amount at 3 cups especially if you tried to increase and he had runny stools.
Keep him on the 1/2 cup Proplan for four or five days since he is so sensitive to change. Make his increases very gradual and see if maybe that helps. 4/5 days on 1/3 of meal then 4/5 days on 1/2 of meal. Then go to 3/4 of meal to all Proplan.
I usuallly started with 1/4 instead of 1/3 by the way.
Have to leave now. Best of luck and keep us posted. |

| | Big Dog | Wow...he seems awful thin. My foster is also 20 weeks but weighs 46lbs.
Like I mentioned in another post I just went through this with my foster and the similarities are unmistakeable. My vet also thought it was quite suspicious that he wasn't vomiting, well hydrated, still very playful and had no blood in his stool however it was very mucousy.
Every time I put him back on the chicken and white rice diet the diarrhea got worse. After we explored every medical possibility my vet recommended I change his food to a different protein (prior to that all the food I was feeding him was chicken/poultry based) as it was possible that he may have an allergy to chicken. When I switched him to the lamb and rice diet his stool was miraculously normal and he has been putting weight on since then.
I would say he eats about 5-6c of food daily in a series of meals.
Maybe try changing the protein before going to raw. If it is an allergy to the protein you will see results very quickly and a bag of food cheaper than a vet visit!
Good luck!! |

I might add that my boy is sensitive to chicken plus enviormental allergies but these will usually present with persistent staph infections and a lot of itching also, chewing of the feet.
My vet said that the most common meat allergies are chicken and beef. Then you have all the grains, corn, wheat, soy being the most common that I can remember. |

| Slippery Elm Bark Powder is a GREAT herb to always keep on hand for any digestive tract issues for humans or animals. It can be ordered on line from organic herabl suppliers.
I just went through a digestive problem with Magic, not sure if he picked something up at the dog show or what. He got the runs and his stools and gas were VERY offensive to the nostrils. lol. I tried all my usual treatments to no avail. Then I remembered that GSE, grapefruit seed extract is EXCELLENT to use for {travellers] diarrhea, caused by Ecoli, well after the second pill {GSE comes in a liquid form or capsules or tablets} his stools returned to normal and the horrific smelling gas just stopped.
Google GSE and check out all the information available. But remember this is grapefruit seed extract not grapeseed. |

No chewing or scratching (other than normal puppy stuff) he does bite his feet but it is more in play than anything...a who keeps biting my feet thing, and he only does it when we play. It is silly actually. The vet did not feel he had any allergies and that I was basically overreacting was the feeling I was getting but to keep my eye on it.
He has been his silly self the last couple of days so we will see...not jinxing myself this time!!
Thanks!!! |

| Yep i know how you feel. I dont know what to think. From what you say i think mine might be under weight but they look fine. I have been real careful to not under or over feed. They have the exact same symptoms as Brovo916 said. I was hopeing when they stoped there meds it would stop but last night/this morning (2:30 am) we were back to the same thing.
