| | Alpha | Any sock eaters who passed the sock ok What is the transit time for a sock to pass through? He ate one before and it came out, I had no idea he ate it. I am hoping this one will do the same (he ate it last night). I have been giving him 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil or coconut oil every couple of hours. Vet said to come in for laxatives. He is not vomiting, had 2-3 bm's, is exercising normally and eating and drinking ok. I am beginning to think that he never ate the sock to beging with. DH says I am overreacting. I think I am going to take him for an x-ray anyway just to be sure (and not tell DH). I know it can be serious if left untreated. Epsom Salts should work to evacuate the bowels but I don't know how to give it to him or if I should do any of that at this point other than monitor him closely.
And yes, EVERYTHING is out of reach now, not just the usual paper towels, toilet tissue, hamper lid on, toilet lid on, no remotes, cell phones or bluetooth. |

| | Alpha | My pit bull Spanky ate a nylon collar off another dog once and puked it up 2 weeks later. I had no idea he ate it. I thought the dog lost the collar in the yard. He never seemed ill or refused to eat??????? If you know your dog ate a sock don't wait... get to the vet. Better safe that sorry. Dogs can go down hill fast and sometime when symptoms show it's too late to help them. Good luck. |

| | Big Dog | My girl before I knew any better actually ate a sock and passed it fine. Then she ate 3 in one day/night with out me knowing she ended up popping 2 out and vomitting the other up. Just keep an eye on him for any unusual behavior. Needless to say we invested in some tall laundry baskets with covers and everyone in the house got a lesson on putting their clothing in the hamper.
Keep us posted. |

| Jack ate a sock that passed two days later from his rear (I had to facilitate). He also ate a small toy mouse that my sister had for her cat. He threw that up within the day but I noticed he ate more grass than usual when his tummy was upset. |

| Just a heads up, DT members have lost dogs to socks and other things. If you have any doubts....I'd go to the vet. I would rather be safe then sorry.

| One of my first Dobe ate a pair of nylons once. Luckily his digestive systom pushed it through and with a little help from us we gently pulled it the rest of the way out once it 'showed' itself at his butt end. Knock on wood in all my years with these dogs I have never had one tort or bloat. BUT, many other people have. It is a very seriuos situation, life or death, for sure. So keep a very close eye on your dog, any sign that something is amiss, run do no walk to the nearest Vet. |

| Of the dogs that I've had growing up, none have been swallowers. Chewers yes, but not swallowing. Jordan changed all that. We have to be meticulous in picking everything up. I do believe that once a swallower, always a swallower. Let us know how the sock situation "turns out". Hopefully he'll pass it fine (if he ate it) but he may need some help. Better safe than sorry. |
