Pro Plan Update.

It has been about 2 weeks since they started on it. Maybe a little more???

This is what they eat....

Rommel (Black Neutered adult male, somewhat picky eater)
2 cups Pro Plan Selects Salmon & Rice
1 can Pro Plan Selects canned (5.5oz) either Chicken, Beef, Salmon or Turkey
A.M & P.M.
Total, 4 cups, 2 cans per day

Ziris (Black adult female, will take your hand off for anything edible)
1 cup Pro Plan Selects Salmon & Rice
A.M. & P.M.
Total, 2 cups per day (she has always been an easy keeper)

Piper (Fawn spayed adult female Boxer, VERY VERY picky eater)
1 cup Pro Plan Selects Salmon & Rice
1 can Pro Plan Selects canned (5.5oz) either Chicken, Beef, Salmon or Turkey
A.M & P.M.
Total, 2 cups, 2 cans per day

Brownie & Bo(15 weeks old today, intact Red male puppy, will eat anything)
2 cups Pro Plans Select Turkey & Barley Puppy
A.M & P.M.
Total, 4 cups per day

I am happy to report that so far they are doing great. I think they LIKE the food (as in taste) more than anything else I have ever fed them. Even Piper runs to her crate when it is time to eat. She has yet to turn her nose up to a meal. Rommel has missed ONE meal, dont know what that was about...but he was right back to eating at the next meal.

I have always had to be careful about Ziris's weight, if she even looks at food she gains weight. (For instance, on EVO, I had to feed her the reduced fat EVO, even only eating 2 cups a day) She is at a good weight right now. I had her at a good weight when we started on Pro Plan and so far, she has maintained it. If anything, she might have trimmed up a tad, but she has also been training alot more than during the winter, and when the puppies were all here. BUT, she also gets more treats at training...so who knows.

No one has had runny stools, or even gas. (not even during the switch over to the food)

I can for SURE say that they have had smaller poops on Pro Plan. That was a very pleasant surprise, I was honestly expecting the opposite. Kind of scratched my head on that one due to Pro Plan ingredients vs. what I was feeding, but I am not complaining.

Everyone still has a really nice shiny coat.

Overall, so far so good. I know that it takes at least 30 days to REALLY notice a difference, but so far I am pretty happy with the food. What I am really happy with, is the fact that they all like it so much. That has not always been the case with other foods I have tried. Piper has even gained a pound or two, which she needed.

I am not from a "looking at the ingredients on the bag" point of view...thrilled....BUT what I am SEEING in my dogs is great.....and I am going to continue to feed it. It seems to be really agreeing with them well so far...small poops, nice coats, eat it with gusto, and plenty of energy.

I will keep you all updated

Yep, kinda where we are too. I put the ingredients list away and feed away. Mr. Picky Eater himself (quincy) (maybe he and Piper should get together) is eating regulary, with an occassional skipped meal. One thing I might write Purina about, though, is this increased energy thing on this food... at 10PM he wants to tug and play and run and it's bedtime - sigh

Thanks for the update. I posted earlier today regarding Pro Plan as i recently switched due to my local pet store not carrying Canidae anymore. I was very concerned about the ingredients but after reading about everyone on here having great reults with their Dobes i decided to give it a trial run. It's still to early to tell how my crew is doing on it but they sure do love the taste. Beetle is a 20 minute process just to get him to eat and so far he devours the Pro Plan. Now if i can only get Pro Plan to send me free food...

Good! Now you can add in your updates every few weeks also! Which one are you feeding? I am interested to hear how your switch goes.

Happy to hear that everyone LIKES the food. My gang eats with great gusto as well. The ingredients are basic, but I think it is the quality of those ingedients that make the difference. Being a farm girl all my life i know that quality food tastes WAY better than the run of the mill mass produced foods most of us get in the grocery stores.

I went with the Chicken and Rice, i figured i'll try that and see how they do and compare it to how others do on the Salmon and Rice.

Question and I'm not trying to be negative re pro-plan as I honestly don't know. But are all the ingredients American and what quality controls are in place at the plant it is made? I went to EVO after the pet food scare last year, for my kibble, as they assured me that there are no imported from China ingredients, and they have their own plant they manufacture from.

Good question robinb. I wonder if Purina canada could answer that as well. As I have been a Purin Pro Club member for many years I think I will email them and ask. i'll let you know what I find out.

Pro Plan was never on that huge recall list.
