| pups can contract kennel cough even though vaccinated - there are a bunch of strains of the bacteria and the vaccine doesn't cover them all. Case in point - quincy had gotten his kennel cough vaccine and came down with kennel cough about 2 weeks later. You will know kennell cough - it will be a dry hacking kind of cough, not a light clearning of throat kind. Sounds like they are almost gagging. And they might have a light fever. |

| Well they are vet bound for tomarrow. Im wondering if its kinda like when you get a flu shot you feel bad for a bit. But im not a vet so im not gonna guess. It hasnt slowed them down at all if any thing i think they have more energy now or they are just wearing me out. Yea i think thats it. I will let you all know what the vet says. |

| Too much of a coincidence that both pups are doing it. At their age I would probably rule out DCM, especially since both have started with the same symptoms at roughly the same time. I would think it is more likely Kennel Cough. If you can pick up some glycerin at the drugstore it is a great respiratory soother and cough suppressant.
Let us know how it goes at the Vets.

| | Big Dog | Champ cought Kennel Cough at Doggie Day Care a few weeks ago.
Even though Champ and any other dog there must have kennel cough shots and all other shots, vet said its still easy to get especially at his age.
Vet gave antibiotics and it slowly got better over about 8-10 days.
Poor guy, I thought I was doing him a favor so he doesnt have to be crated all day (most of day, 2 four hour stints with long lunch break). And then he comes down with Kennel Cough.
I'm kind of over the whole doggie-day care thing anyway, bunch of dogs slobbering all over each other all day, thats just asking for trouble. |

| | Big Dog | I was actually becoming afraid of too much socialization with other dogs.
The books I've read say after the age of 3 months to have more time with new people, places, and things, and less socialization with other dogs.
I'm not saying this is right or wrong and I don't really see what could be bad about doggie socialization, but thats what my Dobie books say. |

Off to the vet again, oh joy. | A cough is NOT the 1st sign of DCM... Its the sign of CHF which is the 2nd stage of Cardio........... Please get your dog in for an Echo and EKG....
I hope its not that ....... But in my experience with this breed there is never a cough that I dont worry about.
