Is the coat problem more prevalent in the reds? My blacks never had any problems.

cara708 is on a distinguished road
Unfortunetly yes it is more prone to Reds, Blues and Fawns....Next dobe I get will be black. I had a black dobe and we just put her down 2 yrs ago. She gave us no problems what so ever. Had to put her down due to old age and failing health problems from being old. My last red had liver failure and she was only 2yrs old! She was my pride and joy! The best dobe I have owned. It killed me to put her down but she was starving herself to death literally because she couldn't keep any nutrients down and she was losing weight rapidly.

Actually it is most prevalent in the blues and fawns, and ocassionally in the reds. I've seen many reds with beautiful coats. cara, I'm sorry you had to put your red girl down at such a young age.
