Its hard for me to believe that I'm thinking of trying this food (from the negative comments that you read about Purina), but I have tried the premiere foods and they all seem hit and miss too. Thinking back, I had Mya on SD (and I know that isn't great food) when she was a pup and don't recall having any issues, so maybe she will thrive on Pro Plan Selects.
So far so good. She is shiny and less flaky, plus she poops less, and it is less grainy. I may switch my boy to it also. He is getting bored with Canidae, and after he eats he goes and licks her bowl ALOT, LOL. I also read here that Canidae may be switching all their formulas. Plus I found a thick, blue piece of plastic in his Canidae two nights ago. If you haven't read the thread on here about those who had dobies live a long time and what they were fed, then you should read it. I am happy so far, and I will continue to feed it. My vet and her tech also said they have seen many dobies thrive on Pro Plan. It is also what the vet tech fed to her dobies when she had them. She said hers never did well on Canidae. She thinks it may not be high enough in protein and fat for them.

Thanks for the quick reply Natdobe. I have read the article about dogs living long and also the forum thread about Canidae switching formulas and also that they use Diamond facilities for their manufacturing. Maybe I mis-interpreted the article though. I thought I read somewhere that they manufactured their own but maybe not. My girl looks at me when I tell her to eat, as if to say "are you kidding me, this stuff again" so maybe a change is needed. That is not good about the plastic found in the bag, I'm just glad is was big enough that you saw it and removed it before the dog ate. Thanks again for the info. I'm getting giddy about switching. I hope I get the results that all others are.

You're welcome! The plastic was actually sticking out of a piece of the kibble, yikes!

I e-mailed Canidae and asked about the Diamond Pet Food Plant this was Canidae's reply.

Due to overwhelming customer support and increased demand on our
products, we have been faced with unique production capacity
challenges.
Our growing customer support and demand has pushed for increased
capacity, therefore we have outsourced additional production from
Diamond Pet Foods. Our customers demand and deserve no less than the
highest quality safe ingredients, as well as state of the art
consistent
manufacturing. Outsourcing additional production from Diamond comes not

without first carefully instating and accepting only the strictest
testing protocols, as well as mandating stringent operating procedures
to ensure the highest quality products possible at every level of
production. We are very happy with this relationship and the high
quality formulations we are able to bring to you. Expect Excellence!

Sincerely,
Canidae Pet Foods
