How long after eating meal to exercise?

Mr. quincy and I have a date with the bike this evening - we are both getting too acclimated to the sofa in the evenings.... how long after he eats his dinner should I wait to bike him? he usually eats dinner around 5PM... I don't want to move dinner out because of his tendency to be a picky eater, this time slot is working for dinner... I don't want any chance of bloating him, so totally conservative time estimate.. thanks

I have been told 30min to a hour but I am not a expert. We usually wait at least 30 min if not more....

I'm pretty sure the Purdue bloat study suggested there was no effect on reducing bloat risk by restricting exercise after eating.

That being said, food acts almost like a natural anesthetic on dogs..they may have a brief period of activity after they eat, but pretty soon they start napping. So there are probably better times to exercise them than immediately after they eat.

I always give them 2 hours after they eat for any major exercise.

I always took my guy out before meals so he would be more motivated with to work on commands (with treats) during the bike ride. We always waited at least 30 minutes when we got back to eat or drink otherwise he would almost inevitably vomit. raw eggs gave him an upset tummy after hard exercise too so I left it out of his kibble on bike days.

I try to wait about an hour. On puppy school nights we eat as close to 5 as possible because school starts at 6.
