| | Alpha | Revolution flea/heartworm Anyone had any experience w/this product? My vet recommended it-I'd never used it b4. They claim its been fine for them for 3 yrs. now, and that its 1 weekness is ticks- but that it covers a large variety of parisites otherwise. It's topically applied. Just wondered it anyone had any feedback. www.revolutionpet.com is the website, I believe. Thanks for any info. and God Bless.
-o.k., web site claims it's a medicine by prescription- not a pesticide. also claims that it aplies in one spot and is shown effective even if the dog is bathed 2 hrs. after.
-i'm skeptical.

| We have been using it for our dogs for the last few years and it seems to work well. No skin irritation or side effects that we observed with our dogs and our dogs go to the local dog park daily so if it didn't work well we would soon know.
Our experience with the product has been good so far.

| Unlike Advantage/Frontline, Revolution doesn't remain on the skin. It's absorbed, and then resides in the blood stream, so that when a parasite feeds, it ingests the chemical.
I've never heard any complaints about it. Just make sure you apply it correctly. Since it has to be absorbed, it MUST be applied directly to the skin, not the hair. So make sure you really part that hair.
I personally chose to use a separate topical product and monthly dewormer/heartworm preventative, because frankly, none of them do everything that I want. Ticks can host up to 200 different diseases, and a single tick can host up to 20. I wanted total coverage - ticks have a major 'eww' factor for me.

| I use the revolution for fleas and heartworm preventative. No fleas here = no complaints.

| I use revolution and have for several years. we live in a high tick area and have had no problems with the revolution. my vet told me it is the only heartworm med that also works on ticks. I havent found a tick on any of the dogs since we started useing it. although I have found 4 on me!!! since this spring. maybe I should use it lol! |

| | Lil Pup | I would seriously think about avoiding that product. My dobe had no problems with revolution but my jack russell had seizures after almost every application. I took both of them off of it and the jack russell has never had another seizure. Its been 2 years. |

| That's terrible and must have been scary!
Had the JRT injested any or licked the wet spot on the dobe?

| I think it's really important to be careful, as factual as possible, and balanced, when discussing a product like this over the 'net.
That said, I have several licensed vet tech friends whom I consider reliable sources of info.
Recently, this year, one of these techs learned of a case of a HW positive dog, who had absolutely always been on time with the Revolution treatment--and this fact was documented by the vet, since the dog's owner purchased the Revolution from the vet and had the vet apply it there in the office.
This is one single documented case, but the owners are still struggling with getting the makers of Revolution to pay for the dog's treatment, not to mention the heartbreak of having to go through this with their dog.
There is another case in Florida, of HW+ on Revolution, but the proof is not as documented in that case.
Nothing is 100%, but from what I understand, the Heartguard Plus folks and the Interceptor and Sentinel folks stand behind their product completely and will pay for treatment if the dog ends up testing positive.
That, so far, has not been the case with Revolution.
I used it for years successfully, never had a problem, but I now use a different HW preventative.
And--even Revolution makes no claims on tick control. It, frankly, stinks as a tick product.
Look into Advantage Multi, if you want a combo product that vets are really recommending now.
