Fly bites on stomach?

Hey All

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with their dobe getting fly bites on their belly? I bring my girl to the park for a walk every evening so she has a chance to run off leash... I just noticed tonight while giving her a belly rub that she has several small round red circles with a little dot in the middle of them. The flies were really terrible there today (and yesterday) but being a new Dobe owner I never really thought to get fly repellent for her (I feel terrible about it now... *bangs head on desk*)

ANYWAYS... I called the emergency vet because the first thing I thought when I saw the red circles was ringworm or a tick bite - but they reassured me that its just fly bites... I believe/trust them - but just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?? I'm going to my vet tomorrow to get some good fly repellent for her... poor thing... I feel like such a bad dog mom... good thing I bought her 2 new toys today... LOL

I have to watch out for fire ants down here in the south...they make a horrible blister where each ant bites the dog. My dogs do get horse flies attacking them at the barn on occasion...and they run like crazy from them!

I will use Adams Mist (blue bottle) which is NOT the residual one for a quick spray down prior to a romp where there may be lots of flies/fleas/ticks...I do not use monthly Frontline or Advantix, etc. Check with your vet if you do use a monthly flea/tick product as to what will be safe to use on top of that.

(My Rexy is allergic to the topical treatments so I give Sentinel HW monthly and do flea sprays as needed.)

Fly bites usually do not bother dogs too much. The bite sites will fade away in no time. A diluted rinse made with Listerine will help repell the little blood sucking vermin.

I'm no vet, but I know that doesn't look like fly bites.

Hi! I just responded to your pm, but wanted to put something out here as well - in case someone else needs an answer.

I'm pretty sure they are fly bites, or bites of some sort. If they are the same thing that Roxy had (about a month ago), they were flat to the touch, didn't bother the dog at all, and had either faded or completely disappeared within 24 hours and all were gone within a couple of days.

DLS had responded to my post about this and was very helpful.

That doesn't look like fly bites. Almost looks like ring worms.

I called my personal vet and described the spots and they said that they are black fly bites.... I told them I was concerned that it was ringworm and they said that typically for ring worm you wouldn't get an outbreak of so many in such a short period of time.... and they would be much larger and scaley to the touch.... she advised that they should be gone in a few days and to use Avons Skin So Soft on her belly when we go in the woods again to prevent so many bites

Hope this is helpful
