| | Big Dog | got a sick lil guy..what do i do? Mauser is just over 7 weeks and has been home for only a few days now. We are feeding him orijen large breed puppy. He has extremely runny stools and just a few minutes ago was vomiting a dark brown runny liquid. This is our first dobe puppy, and we are lost and dont know what it could be. Any ideas on whats wrong with the lil guy, we feel so helpless. |

| I would RUN as fast as I could to my vet. a pup can go downhill so fast......better to not take a chance.
I take any new critter I get to the vet within days of comming home.If not the same day.....for many reasons. 7 weeks is so young.....so I dont think he is protected from all the nasty puppy sickness's. at 7 weeks he shouldnt even be on grass strange dogs have been on.... I wish him and you the best.I would go right to the vet. |

| I agree that your first step should be to take him to the vet ASAP.
How much are you feeding him? Sometimes we do not realize we are feeding too much of a very good quality food and that will cause diarrehea and vomiting.

| What was the breeder feeding if a new food to the pup will also cause diarrhea.Plus you should always take a new pup to a vet to be check out and 1st shots given + check for worms. Most breeders do not let there pups go at 7 weeks. |

| | Big Dog | well we took him to the vet and we believe that it may have been the origen. he is now on science diet id for 5 days. after the five days we will gradually add in a more simple formula food, i was thinking innova puppy or large breed puppy. the vet also gave us Metronidazole Suspension to give Mauser for 14 days. apparently his bowls were a little swollen from having the runs so bad.
he has been on the id for just over 24hours and his stool is already solid!!!!! |

| Glad to hear his little belly has settled down. Did you give them a stool sample to check for parasites?

| Puppies can be quite sensitive to radical food changes. Make sure not to switch to any food too fast.
If energy level, hunger, thirst are all there, I tend not to worry too much.
